I quit watching coaches corner years ago, he became so out of touch. That said more people should wear poppies, but everyone, I see lots of white people not wearing them either. Cherry might be a dinosaur but he truly is a good man. He still at he’s age spends numerous hours doing charity work and helping people, especially sick children. When out in public has time for everyone and is an extremely friendly, welcoming man. His passion, unfortunately, sometimes gets the better of him and he blurts out stupid things.

Cherry can say anything he wants still. If he wrote a book or made a public appearance or tweeted or blogged or did a podcast, I'm sure he'd have an audience. His freedom of speech is not curtailed at all. Appearing on HNIC is not a charter right.
His firing was unfortunate. I enjoyed his segment--it was good entertainment. (I'm either in the minority on enjoying that segment, or Sportsnet has forgotten that the first rule of entertainment is to make sure you're entertaining).
Even at 85 his hockey knowledge & insight was actually pretty good most of the time, but the best part was how deeply connected he is to the various towns and small teams all across the country, highlighting young kids playing the game, community heroes, and more. There's real value and connectedness you feel watching him speak with so much pride for Canada--and it's hard to see how that will be replaced.
Whether or not his comments were offensive, I think he'll be missed. Now we'll get some boring person droning on about analytics or whatever. Don Cherry was at times inappropriate for sure, but at least he was different than the endless army of forgettable commentators out there. Get ready to be bored AF watching HNIC intermissions now.
Under one of Ron McLean's tweets is the leader of some Canadian Anti-Islam group defending Don. Under Donald Trump's tweets there's constantly obvious Russian bots like @chatbycc and @real_defender parroting right-wing talking point. Obvious right wing brigading operations on Reddit and the like.
I love how the left is supposed to be a threat when stuff like this is out in the open.
Also I saw Trump's tweet saying he's releasing a new transcript this week and wanted to know more so I googled "white house transcript" and the first link is from whitehouse.gov named:
I know this isnt the platform for an ethical debate, but is it racism to say "you people" when it's unclear which race he is talking about?? Over the years he's attacked Russians, Swedes and French. Seems more xenophobic to me. Anyone crying racism is just lazy, get your outrage right. - Udogs

Agreed!! I was blocked by @chatbyCC for calling out her 375,000 tweets months ago. There is no way possible for anyone to tweet that many times over 9 years. It came out to something like 3,500 tweets per month. Who has that much time and willingness to constantly tweet day and night? She has to be a bot. Do you know how many tweets she's up to now?
Canceled my cable package today and will stream games the rest of the way. This was a complete overreaction and another example of cancel culture.. If nothing was done it would have been business as usual in a week when the there was something new to be offended and outraged at. - Azuredoom
In reaction to their overreaction, you overreact. In reaction to the cancel culture, you cancel your cable package. You're outraged at their outrage.

Never really cared for Cherry but the PC cancel culture is ridiculous. Maybe if he was with Trudeau at that party in blackface he would have gotten a pass. - TRDevil
Just let's you know where the thinking is. The same people that called for Cherry's head are the same one's that voted Blackface PM in. You can't even make this sh!t up lol
Would have been great if Cherry agreed to a public apology, went on live TV and then really gave everyone a piece of his mind. Too bad to see him go out like this, what he said has been pretty much par for the course on coaches corner for a long time. I think Sportsnet has wanted to ditch the old CBC crew since they took the contract ,but it's been too unpopular of a decision. This was the perfect justification for firing Don.
Personally, I haven't tuned in for quite some time. I find that Don can't get any of the names right, and he just rambles along nowadays. He earned a better exit than this though.

Good riddance to that crusty old turd. I never understood the cult-like following that withered hater has. Don't let the door hit him in his ass on the way out.
Cherry getting fired is a huge overreaction. Can't say anything these days without offending someone. What a joke - Palfenier
Don Cherry is paid to talk between intermissions about hockey not share is political agenda. The second he said "You people come to Canada" that was the end. This isnt like it is the first time he has said stuff like this. The second thing is who is he to say people are ungrateful for not buying a poppy. I am Canadian Born, I did not buy a poppy because I dont put meaning in objects. Objects have no meaning. I dont need a Poppy to be grateful for the sacrifices people made for me.
The same people feigning moral outrage are the same ones who elected Jill Andrew even after she gave the "2016 coon of the year award" to the black police chief!!!

Nope, Cherry 🍒 would have survived again, with an apology

Could it be because the left are generally a bunch of pompous, self-righteous idiots?

Cherry's act started wearing thin about 10 years ago. It was time to move on with something a little more fresh and interesting.
I don't know engaging HitchRichard would be, but I would love to see him break down game film of where people *should* be when they don't have the puck, vs. where they actually are that led to a breakdown.
Every lieberal ran country/state/province has turned into an absolute poophole now you tell me that's just a coincidence
How's San Fransh!tzco and LA looking?

Liberals deserve to live under the socialist totalitarian regime that they're creating over hurt feelings. It's just exhausting trying to prevent them from dragging us all with them.
