You look at the games and teams out there, it has the feel that most teams will be in the playoff hunt until late in the season. |

The slow starts, the refusal to bench guys like Lehtera, the riding Elliot into the ground, the refusal to play some of the younger dmen, playing Hagg every game, just to name a few. - ClaudeFather
My two favorite Hak moments were scratching Sanheim when his family came to see him play and then also saying that even though the Sanheim-Gudas pairing was playing the best out of the D, it was no reason to increase their ice time.
It's been a breath of fresh air to see coaches let players have a chance to make up for their mistakes this year. |

You are not considering all of the factors, his time here was a failure, there's no other way around it. - ClaudeFather
How was it a failure? His record was 134-101-42 with a mediocre team |

Many inaccuracies here. Lehtera only played 62 games during the 17-18 season. So you are factually incorrect that he refused to bench Lehtera. Hakstol played a 19 year old Provorov as his top defenseman since he came into the league. Hakstol had no choice to play Elliott as much as he did and in my opinion any coach would of done the same thing. Slow starts are on the players. Haag was one of the top 6 defenseman available to the coach.
You don't have anything here.

3 games over - KINGKENZO
It is 5 games. OT and SO losses are treated as ties. OT and SO Wins are treated as less than Regulation wins so why would losses be any different? |

Yea, Hakstol had the tough years when he had to use ice time to correct the repeated mistakes that players like Konceny and Sanheim made as young players. Helped make them better players. It's interesting that Rangers fans often criticized Vigneualt for over playing veterans and not playing young players. The inference is clear. |

The rangers had a 'cup contender', Hak had a team that was supposed to take a step forward through the influx of youth. Hak was up and down, the tenure was not a memorable one. |

You don't even realize that you're helping me to make a point. Developing young players is rarely linear and often up and down. Especially when your team does not receive NHL level goaltending.

Hakstol did nothing wrong, every decision was the right one. Get on board. |

Expected hyperbole.
What would really be appropriate is a statement of Hakstol did nothing right and every decision was the wrong one. Get on board. |

Overall I dont think Hak was either a success or a failure I think he was average.
He did some things well and some things not so well.
He coached the team to the playoffs twice (Fixed credit to MJL) and finished with an above 500 record.
He also seemed to grow a bit stale in his approach to the game. |

The Flyers made the playoffs twice in Hakstol's tenure.
