good coach good young players
- 2Real

When you have a coach with the resume Vigneault has it gives you instant credibility nationally, as well as with the players in the room.

Jim Jackson is just as bad as Edwards. Whenever you have patented homerisms you’re a buffoon. “They say it’s onsides!”
- Just5

Disagree - I think Jackson does a pretty good job of not being a over-the-top homer. Edwards takes the cake in that category, imo.

Makes me resent Hak and Hex all the more.
- DrMidnite

Why Hexy? I wasn't a fan of Hakstol and didn't like that Hexy didn't help the on-ice product more (sans JvR), but I think Hexy did a good job of setting the team up. I wouldn't say I resent either, though.

Compared to Edwards, anyone seems super even. But every announcer, or at least most of them, are going to lean towards the team they are paid to cover. Jackson definitely has a bias, but I don't think it's that bad, IMO.

Jim says that for both teams if he questions an onside or offside, although maybe a little more emphatically if it goes against the Flyers. And he's far from a buffoon.
- bmeltzer

Jim's play-by-play during the Leafs/Flyers series when JR won it in overtime to clinch the series is one of the best stretch of calls I've ever heard. His call made it THAT much more tense.

It's hard to believe Jim's been here since what '96?

I wanted to win that game solely to not listen to that dipstick celebrate, he complained about the no goal right up until the shootout, was claiming Philly getting phantom icing calls, he always has paid respect to guys like G on the feed by the homer-ism is just too much. Hate to say it but I think the Rangers guys are very fair commentators.
- ClaudeFather

Agree - I've liked Sam Rosen ever since I heard him call Simon Gagne's 2004 ECF Game 6 OT winner. Rosen was the "network" radio feed announcer for that game.

I also like Joe Beninati of the Caps... that also has something to do with his calls of Flyers goals in the playoffs (2008 & 2010).

andreoff has looked good on the 4th line. stint in the minors has served myers well.
- daryl stanley

I’m not sold on Andreoff. Thought he did better in the Toronto game. Raffl was carrying that line at the end of the Boston game.

Myers is getting more and more confidence. His offensive upside might be huge, but he has the tools to be a top all-situations d-man. Hopefully development won’t be too bumpy.

If memory serves, Jim Jackson started as the radio pbp guy in 1995 (the strike-shortened season that started in January), and then took over on TV after Gene Hart left that post after the '95 playoffs ended.

Caps guys are good as well, their calls on the Ovi goals are always good. They as well talk up guys like G. Cant stand Pitt broadcast, not even homerism i think it;s just trash.

Andreoff is better than Stewart. I think when everyone is healthy, the 4th line is Laughton, Raffl and Pitlick. As long as Giroux remains at center.

Until Laughton gets back, that spot in the lineup is probably going to be a revolving door. None of the players they've brought up are ready to be an NHL regular. Just stop gap.

Agree 100% - like you said, any team's announcer will lean towards them, and I'm fine with that. Just don't be over the top or say inaccuracies in the process of backing your team.

I like him too. He used to do some national broadcasts during the Versus days but not now. His color guy in Washington is a riot too. Him and Coatsy and a fake fight during a Coatsy's Corner segment. That was pure gold.

That's right, I forgot he was the radio guy before moving to TV. Yep, since '95 than.

If I was talking about when Laughton is back, the question is Andreoff better than Twarynski? I disagree that Andreoff is a better 13th forward than Stewart.

I'm really loving AV so far. No nonsense type of guy. Loved that he acknowledged giving the 4th line more minutes late in a game because they were playing well. That kind of accountability should hopefully wake some of the other guys up.
- hereticpride

He had some issues with the Rags.

But he's a new man now, thanks to the stubble.

I would choose Twarynski over Andreoff. Stewart may bring certain attributes and intangibles over Andreoff as a 13th forward and press box sitter but he is not a better player on the ice.

I keep thinking that if Patrick isn’t going to be back soon, they might make a move to acquire a solid 4th line c/w. I do think Frost will be up at some point, but he would be best to start off as a top 9 winger.

Absolutely.

With this said, Konecny and Lindblom seem to be carrying the load themselves.

Really can’t stand Pitlick. I think he offers nothing.

- SuperSchennBros

I honestly have liked pitlick. He seems to be grtting better each game and comijg into his own. I am pleased with the entire 4th line right now. Its been awhile since we had av4th line that didn't get abused game in and game out

Difficult to do with their current cap situation. They would likely have to move someone off of the current roster to create cap space. Cap aside when all players are healthy, adding that play might allow them to play Laughton on the 3rd line.
