Where do people watch AHL games these days? The AHL streaming packages seem kind of bizarre unless you pay for access to every game.

Why would anyone want a single team package that doesn't include the playoffs or just home game packages?

- hereticpride

Last year I had the single team package (Phantoms) but actually had access to all regular season games.

In the spirit of getting the hockey conversation restarted. On the state of the team there is where I see it. I think the team as a whole is committed to playing within the system of the head coach. I think a number of players on the team have improved their play away from the puck to the point where the Flyers are not an easy team to play against. They are showing signs of gelling as a team and within the team structure. However, some players are struggling to find their offensive games within that new team structure. Those players in my view are Giroux, Voracek, vanRiemsdyke, Gostisbehere, Hayes and to a lesser extent Couturier. I see the team growing in steps through the first 17 games of the season. I believe the offense in a situation like this is always the last step. When and if those players find their offensive game to the level that they're capable of, the team will be even better.

If Ghost and Jake can start to return to form a bit then there is no reason this team cant win a playoff round. I'm hoping the team just stays healthy. They can't afford to lose another center.

It's more than those two. For example even though he has played well away from the puck and on the PK, Kevin Hayes has 3 5 on 5 points through 17 games. Which happens to be 1 more 5 on 5 point than Pitlick has in 13 games with 2. Michael Raffl has 5 points in 5 on 5 play. In comparison Giroux has 6 and Voracek has 7 in 5 on 5 play. Not good enough.

I’m glad you brought up Couturier as a player who is struggling with his offensive game. Until last night, Coots was neck and neck with Giroux and Voracek with a lesser plus/minus for the last stretch of games. For me, Coots’ wingers have been carrying that line.

the feeds on directv are always in HD, i have no issues plus you get the nhl.tv streaming feeds for free as part of the package. sorry if i'm late with the comment
- monty burns

Yes! I had DirecTV but not the HD version (couldn't get a clear site line for the HD dish). The included NHL.TV app with streaming kept DTV at my house an extra year. When that season ended I dropped their non-HD-providing butts for xfinity. Once you see HD you cannot go back.

That is because Couturier is doing all the dirty work.

He’s also out there playing with some type of injury. He’s def less than 100% and still potting winning goals. Not worried about him.

Hayes hasn’t done jack since he’s teamed with Voracek. In fact it seems wherever Voracek goes that line struggles. He’s been a problem and hopefully he can figure out how to become a more effective player in this system.

Girouxs line hasn’t been doing anything. Their not hurting the team defensively, but their not doing much. That has to get better.

They’re being carried by one forward line

Couturier is doing a great job in winning games for the team but those goals are in the shootout or in 3 on 3 OT play. Couturier has 3 goals in 17 games at 5 on 5 pay.

What dirty work? He’s not taking all the face-offs for his line, which suggests a possible shoulder injury.

When Laughton gets back what do the lines look like? Giroux is seemingly handling the center spot a bit better this time around.

Not much offense coming from that line but he’s not playing poorly.

I think I’m keeping him at center and making a 4th unit of Raffl-Laughton-Pitlick

I think it’s paramount that they continue to give the 4th line a regular shift if their going to keep this style of play up. Giroux playing 16-18 minutes a night at center will keep him fresher than the giroux playing 22-24 mins a night at center as was previously done.

I know it's only 17 games into the season, but I like the fact that AV is running 4 lines out there. Hakstol shortened his bench way too often and way too early which burned out the better players on the team. I know that Hakstol was burdened with players like Bailey, Goulbourne, Hartman, Knight, Weise and Lehtera, but I still think Hakstol mismanaged the Flyers lines. I also like the energy some of the new guys are bringing to the team. It's actually nice to see the Flyers compete in the first period of games instead of sleepwalking through it and showing up in the 2nd or 3rd periods. Hopefully this trend continues?

Not sure why people keep wanting to compare how a bench is handled on a team that has 3 centers in Couturier, Hayes, and Giroux and a team that has 3 lines to match up with to teams that had far less to work with in terms of matchups. It's mind boggling.

Hakstol did an outstanding job managing the Flyers lines in the 17/18 season getting the team to 3rd in the Metro with basically one good line and a 19 year old as their #1 defenseman.

Not sure if anyone else saw it, but Nick Foligno only got 3 games for a flying elbow on PEB. Absolutely mystified how he only got 3 games. I guess it's because PEB wasn't dead in a pool of blood, as they seem to value the result over the intent.

Yeah that was Bureau on Svoboda bad.

And sorry, I didn't see you post the video earlier.

Edit: The really crazy this is that Foligno could have throw a clean shoulder or hip check on PEB that would have still been a huge hit due to PEB turning, but felt the need to lead with the elbow and leave his feet.

As much as we all hate Scott Stevens, and as much as he had no problem catching people in vulnerable situations, he kept his elbow tucked. Why can't people just make clean, hard hits anymore?

An interesting take from the LeBrun interview with Fletcher yesterday on the Athletic. Fletcher talks about the improvement in the defensive unit. He mentions the contributions and potential contributions of every D man individually including Hägg and Morin. The only one not mentioned....Ghost. Hmmm.
