He went on an anti-immigrant rant. - PLindbergh31
See no reports of him being fired, not sure who claimed that. What he said was not wrong, just because people are mad on twitter doesn't mean he or Sportnet should aplogize |

I'm not a fan of the way the NHL does a lot of things but they impressed me yesterday with regards to CI.
I signed up for the streaming service last Thursday so I could watch the Montreal game. Signup was easy and they shouldn't be blacked out in my zip code. Yes, I checked again before signing up. What do I find when I try to watch? It's blacked out. After two contacts with the "help" desk it was determined that my ISP was making it look like I live in a zip code that is blacked out. (Why that zip code is blacked out is beyond me as it's even farther from the Philly area than my zip code.) The "help" desk folks said they couldn't do anything for me so I emailed them and complained that I signed up for something that they can't deliver so I wanted my subscription cancelled. - Scoob[crickets] So game time last night I checked and it was blacked out. I was po'd again. I called them up to complain and cancel. Explained my story to the very nice guy who answered. He asked "if you could watch Flyers games would you still want to cancel?" Of course not, that's why I signed up. He put me on hold for about 5 minutes. When he came back he asked me to try again. Poof! The game was available. He didn't explain how did it but he said he reviewed my account, apologized that it wasn't taken care of sooner, and made it be so I won't be blacked out. Score one for the NHL.
Had I needed to cancel I wouldn't have been happy but I also wouldn't have turned to pirate media to watch.
They should've refunded part of your costs to compensate you for the error. |

The Toronto Sun's Joe Warmington (is that a real name?) apparently reported it first. |

Why? - Scoob
He doesn't like those who do not wear poppy's to pay respect to those that have fallen to protect the freedoms those to the north of us have.
At least that's the clip that I believe got him canned. Apparently, that is an anti-immigrant rant. |

With the Flyers actually winning some shoot outs, maybe the league will now start to consider getting rid of skills competition to decide games.. - bmoreflyer
Farabee s move was gold. Loved carters calmness in the so. Fantastic. |

In any event, Sportnet's twitter account is confirming the firing of the old man who yells at clouds (and immigrants.. and chicken swedes). |

Glad it worked out for you.
I had subbed for over 10-years. I wanted to keep giving the league my money but the product continually did not meet baseline expectations. As streams got better, it was a pretty easy decision to ditch Center Ice.
As far as ethics, the guy who runs the stream pays for the package. Whether he's sharing it in his home w/ friends, with customers at his bar/restaurant, or to strangers over the internet, the league deems them all as a violation of broadcast rights anyway. I feel about as bad about streaming as I would about watching the game for free at the pizzeria down the street. |

its not like he was going to retire. this, or dying in mid-rant was probably the only way out. |

Jim's play-by-play during the Leafs/Flyers series when JR won it in overtime to clinch the series is one of the best stretch of calls I've ever heard. His call made it THAT much more tense.
It's hard to believe Jim's been here since what '96? - hockeylover
Even earlier, because Jim started out on radio and then moved over to TV. |

The way he said it was calling out immigrants. I think its a bit ridiculous given the sexist and racist remarks he has made about women and the french and this is what is uncalled for and inappropriate. |

I thought about that but then I realized I wasn't prepared with what the value of that inconvenience would be. Regardless, it would be a nominal amount and I really don't have the energy for that. |

Technically it is because he was generalizing all immigrants. Some wear poppies some dont. Some Canadian born people wear poppies, some dont.
I think personally think the idea that you have to buy a product to be appreciative and support those who died in war is ridiculous. Buying a poppy doesnt mean you care at all. |

I'm pretty sure commercial establishments pay more for their subs for exactly this reason. |

I don't agree with people being 'canceled' for single instances or things they did deep in their past... but Grapes is the very definition of a repeat offender, deeply unapologetic, who has his head stuck so far is crusty ass that the 20th century has yet to dawn on him, much less the 21st. |
