Can Campbell make a save?
- PatC80

On the second half of back to back behind this teams defense?
Unlikely.

Not only does he imply that immigrants disrespecting our vets, but they’re here just for our stuff? Lol.. does he mean, women?? Or literal milk and honey?

I haven't actually heard Cherry's rant... did he actually call out people of color... or did he just say immigrants in general?

does anyone know whether they teach any of the Canadian military involvement in history at school? or is that too controversial these days? (I'm guessing they don't teach history anymore - expect everyone to get it from Hollywood)

What is lost on everyone because of our newfound love of outrage culture, is that towards the end he actually gave respect to new and old Canadian that bought poppy's.

I think he means they come here for the better life. He's saying you come here, get all the benefits of leaving where you are from originally, so please show respect for those who died to give you the option. Nothing big about it except outrage culture 2019.

I think the idea is the money goes to help vets. Trudeau said they were asking for too much. Meanwhile he gives billions and billions to other countries. So buying a poppy is a way too help vets.

Yep. 25 wins last season. 2.29 .929.

Kings had a slightly better defense last year with AWFUL scoring.

Cherry didn't actually say either.. The rant started with "you people come here". Which is wrong.. should have worded it differently if he didn't want to offend anyone.

I'm sure half of the outrage about Don is folks who are still pissed with him for stuff he said 20 years ago, french canadians, europeans, - he's critiqued a wide range of folks over the years.

the other other is snowflake culture at the moment...

if he had said something about "how they don't teach this in school's anymore", the one teacher who still does would have thrown a fit.

should have said what he said... sure he should have - he has the platform. He's got Ron to apologize for him - so why not. Should he have chosen more appropriate words - sure he should have.

but that would mean he'd have had to think about it in advance.

But that’s what I’m saying. The recent immigrants don’t follow the tradition yet and Don is upset over it.

Is it fair to expect the same degree of understanding of Canadian history from recent immigrants? Probably not. It’s probably wrong for Don to expect people to understand the meaning of the Remembrance Day the moment they land in Canada, but if he meant, “be more respectful of Canadian history and try to assimilate “, I can understand where he is coming from. bacause, trust me, many recent immigrants have no interest in assimilation; it is a fact. However if they want to get ahead in Canada, they can’t stay that way forever, so most people (or 2nd generation at least) come around after a while. Don sees people before they realize it’s to their own advantage to assimilate and gets frustrated because he feels they don’t respect the country they’ve moved to (yet), it’s entirely ok. His actual wording, left a lot to be desired but that’s don.

I doubt he truly is a racist Isn’t Subban his favorite player?

- gamerdoc

Racism doesn't quite work that way. That racist owner of the LA Clippers had a number of black people on his team, too. His diversity hire percentages were fantastic!

On one side, I get the point that a newly landed immigrant to Canada shouldn't be expected to understand the ramifications and traditions, and certainly not the emotional and familial ties that most generational Canadians would. That said, you simply can't generalize because you don't know. The statement groups one set of people into a negative light while simply ignoring whole other groups of Canadians who didn't have to "come here". They were born here and many even have family histories that have been terribly affected by the wars - and many young people are losing touch with that.

Simply put: he shouldn't have generalized it to immigrants because they are not the problem here.

Yeah I don't get why people are so outraged. It's common knowledge that Don Cherry is a crazy old coot that likes to use his position and platform to promote his crazy outdated opinions, nothing new here.

I remember him going on a pretty interesting stretch of games last season.

I'm not so sure the Kings, who are in rebuilding mode, would trade him away though.

- Scabeh

They have Cal Petersen in the AHL who has had good numbers in the small sample size in the NHL. 25 years old.

I thought as society we moved beyond all the tribalism/nationalism stuff..

It’s divisive. Most bumhole Canadians I know are established white people

That’s what old ppl/boomers do, it’s what they’ve always done. Casual racism and maintain the status-quo. People don’t like change because they’re most comfortable with how things are. But young people will always want change, it all depends on who holds the balance of power, and boomers are in a very peculiar situation..

For all the sins of the US they treat their vets a lot better. It really is a national shame how poorly Canada treats our vets.

"They" take advantage of the gravy train ....

I hear where Don's coming from.

I was working at a data center and there was this one guy on his cell phone during the 2 minutes of silence.
I was so annoyed with that person.

Don't want him.

- MaximusAurelius

Hutch is doing great for you guys.

I’d say you keep him instead. LOL

Leafs don’t have great options at a back up. I’m just throwing it out there.
