A Finnish goalie playing for the Leafs

Can't remember the last time it happened, what could possibly go wrong?

- TheMussel

It's not we ever drafted a really good Finnish goalie, and just gave them away before.. It's worth a shot..

I’m sure Campbell will be available at some point during the season. Kings would want a pick or 2 I’m sure. Signed for 2 more years 1.65.

Quick is untradeable at this point. Was hoping he’d be a little bit better this year so they could retain salary and trade him and go with Campbell and Petersen next year, although it wouldn’t be a terrible thing if quick ends up the back up and mentor l

Not sure why Don Cherry gets so much hate over his comment.

Because of my job, I interact with all kinds of people every week. And I personally haven’t seen many recent immigrants wearing poppies this past week. In fact none. On the other hand, the visual minority groups who have lived in Canada for 15+ years are just likely to wear poppies as Caucasians by my eye test, without doing any formal survey.

Granted, it’s not like as many Caucasians wear poppies any more but at least in the population I deal with in Hamilton, the fact not many recent immigrants wear poppies is not a racist bs but just an object observation.

Now, these immigrants don’t have a lot of connections to Canadian history yet, so one would hope that they would become more respectful of Canadian history in time, and from that perspective perhaps what Don said is a little harsh, but I don’t see anything racist.

Really, it’s a reflection of the suboptimal job the government has done to assimilate new immigrants. Too much emphasis on diversity and not enough emphasis on unity.

your entire post is missing the point of the "Don Cherry hate". It's not about the actual poppy. It's about him saying "You people come here". Which is, or was assuming people of colour don't honour the sacrifices all those men and women made..

I remember him going on a pretty interesting stretch of games last season.

I'm not so sure the Kings, who are in rebuilding mode, would trade him away though.

It's less about the opinion and more about the platform. You can't say poop like that on national TV when you're in that role. Kids watch coaches corner and you're talking about immigrants.

But that’s what I’m saying. The recent immigrants don’t follow the tradition yet and Don is upset over it.

Is it fair to expect the same degree of understanding of Canadian history from recent immigrants? Probably not. It’s probably wrong for Don to expect people to understand the meaning of the Remembrance Day the moment they land in Canada, but if he meant, “be more respectful of Canadian history and try to assimilate “, I can understand where he is coming from. bacause, trust me, many recent immigrants have no interest in assimilation; it is a fact. However if they want to get ahead in Canada, they can’t stay that way forever, so most people (or 2nd generation at least) come around after a while. Don sees people before they realize it’s to their own advantage to assimilate and gets frustrated because he feels they don’t respect the country they’ve moved to (yet), it’s entirely ok. His actual wording, left a lot to be desired but that’s don.

I doubt he truly is a racist Isn’t Subban his favorite player?

Non of the goals last night are on hutch. The D was atrocious and is terrible. Ceci scores on his own net every game and they let guys walk right in. Dermott backed up all the way to the hash marks. Maybe try and hit the guy?

I haven't actually heard Cherry's rant... did he actually call out people of color... or did he just say immigrants in general?

does anyone know whether they teach any of the Canadian military involvement in history at school? or is that too controversial these days? (I'm guessing they don't teach history anymore - expect everyone to get it from Hollywood)

I wonder what he meant by “milk and honey”?

Not only does he imply that immigrants disrespect our vets, but they’re here just for our stuff? Lol.. does he mean, women?? Or literal milk and honey?
