He also said Hutch probably isn’t an NHL goaltender.

So combine what you said and the last sentence I said.

That’s what I am saying.

- Santo_44

I just listened to the interview, I didn’t him say that. And if he’s not an NHL goalie, that has nothing to do with the atrocious defensive play.

You’re desperately trying to cover-up the fact that they can’t play defence.

This is correct.

I’m convinced people don’t actually watch the games, and if they do they instantly forget every time the Leafs give up an odd-man rush, breakaways, high % scoring chance, let players skate in on their goalies unopposed etc..

That’s how people seem to view the game. It doesn’t matter as long as it doesn’t go in the net, and if t does it’s the goalies fault every time. Because you’re absolutely correct, this is 90% a team defence issue, and 10% a goalie issue..

THIS

The game I watched last night I saw our defence backing way into our end letting Chicago and PATRICK KANE walk in unhindered... but is Hutch's fault...

Yep KOOLAID

Of course it would have been nice if he turned into Hasek, but really? People in here blaming him?

It is the same story in Toronto for 15 years. THEY CANT DEFEND. But hey, now we have Barrie cause clearly what we need is more offensive guys...

- Hockey_Reverend

Whoever is next up, needs to stand on his head.

Welcome to leaf land....the koolaid never stops flowing.

Exaclty. I just listened to it as well. All those guys are saying the same thing. Hutch was hung out to dry and the LEAFS cant defend...

I remember when we had a backup named Glen Healey. HE SUCKED BIG TIME, and yet the team would win some games because the TEAM showed up and had some Balls...
- Hockey_Reverend

I may only be speaking for myself here, but I'm not blaming everything on Hutchinson..
I'm saying we need someone better than him to be our back up goalie.
A goalie that doesn't allow a lot of rebounds and has a quick glove, that can make a big save at an important point in the game.. That's what we need

If the Leafs player better hockey in front of him he’d have some wins. Freddy saves this teams ass every time he plays.

Hutch is the new scape-goat, but the issues run much, much deeper than the backup goalie.

I’m listening to Bob rn, he’s saying it’s bullshït the way the Leafs rely on their goalies. It’s unsustainable.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Dubas felt that this Leafs defense was really good - and better than last year.
Fact is that Ceci sucks, and Barrie is just not the profile Leafs are looking for (already have Rielly who is better).

Dubas felt as well that Hutchinson was good enough to be his backup - inspite of clear evidence that Hutchinson was never going to be that decent backup NHL goalie you can rely on (as a backup and in case of injury).

Seems Dubas has 0 idea on goalies (remember - Lou got us Andersen) - undervalued McSavey, hugely overvalued Sparks and again overvalued Hutchinson.
With so many good young wingers on this team, the top priority should have been to get a solid backup that can be a starter.

Let's hope Leafs can get Georgiev, but now it will cost them way more...
Maybe a bigger trade involving Kreider + Georgiev can be made. Leafs could really use Kreider on Matthews' line.

There is not a lot of other good options available - might even be better to just get Woll as a backup instead of some very bad NHL backup. (please, NO Domingue!!)

And who's fault is this mess?

DUBAS

He looked at this team and thought 'we need a soft high end offensive d-man who cant defend' and got Barrie...

BTW, as I’ve said on countless occasions this season, I’m not sure Hutchinson is a capable NHL back up goalie but playing him only in G2 of back to backs in front of a team that collapses in front of him, well...

- PatC80

He never really stood a chance.
Bring on the next goalie we can squeeze under the cap.

Yep.

No one is saying Hutch is an all-star.. Or that he’s even a decent backup.. But he’s not been given a fair shake. The team just looks terrible on back-to-backs. Everything about this team ties back to mental struggles.. which is probably due to the fact that they gave 21 year olds way more money than they should have at that age. Their brains aren’t even fully developed yet, it’s unrealistic to think they’d handle it as mature as a 27-28 year old..

Holy (frank) man.

The majority of us agree the leafs haven’t played will in front of him.

But Hutch has been horrible as well.

Which is all people are saying. Quit finding excuses to go on endless rants on here.

the only other goalie apart from Georgiev that makes sense would be Scott Darling.
that's would be a high-risk, high-reward bet..
(not sure whether he's mentally recuperated from a very bad season last year..)
