And goalies that aren’t starters have never gotten much in returns.

And it makes sense, they get hot for 30 games and then they are out of the league.

I highly doubt a team is paying more than that.

Who’s giving a young top 9 player for a backup? Has that ever happened?

The Bruins traded Martin Jones for the 15th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and Sean Kuraly.

but you have 15 of them - you should share the wealth
- 21peter

I just can’t see a team doing that.

A lottery pick and a Tamishov plus maybe a guy with some potential from the minors.

That’s the type of return you get from anyone.

Leafs have neutered their offense, probably on purpose by Babs.
my guess is to "Play the right way"???

At some point, TOR is going to have to do something differently. Their xG differential is second last in the Atlantic, a clear negative, and an on-going issue. That's philosophy more than personnel, especially given TOR's roster.

They had 3 consecutive seasons of being one the top teams in xg and creating offense,

so a big shift this season. Lets see if it pays off

Again.

Different goalies.

Bernier, Retto Berra.

This is the type of goalie we are talking.

We aren’t viewing Georgiev as a sure fire starter. And if we are NYR should hold onto him.

Considering he had made a total of 34 appearances in front of a staunch L.A. Kings defense, I'd hope not that much if I were the team trying to acquire him.

I remember everyone touting him as the next big starter.

I don’t see a soul saying that about Georgiev.

He had a .906 sv pct in his last year with L.A.

He was undrafted, played a total of 34 games, and wasn't overly remarkable in the AHL. You asked for an example, I think this is a pretty good one.

You think the Kings are trading a 1st, a sure fire starting goalie, and Colin Miller for Lucic?

No, you didn't, but you said he was thought of as the next big starter. Obviously the team with the most knowledge about him threw him in as a small piece of a trade.

You asked for an example of a backup getting a large return and I just showed you one with only 34 appearances, but he's different because you remember him being touted as the next best thing since sliced bread after a .906% in front of LA?

i'll just agree to disagree with you.

I mean obviously LA didn’t want to trade him to SJ so they added him in a piece to get a player they really wanted.

Which at the time Lucic was highly sought after. So they thought it was worth it.

It’s obvious he was a highly touted goalie.

A highly touted undrafted goalie with 34 games of NHL experience? For a 15th overall pick? Yeah, I don't see it, but if you do that's fine.

They can't play defense, and don't have defensive defensemen . . .so they have decided to stop generating offense as well?

Perhaps they are hoping to be so negative that it wraps around to a super-positive?

The Melnyk Theorem has never been field quantified!

Didn’t they do something like that when we had Komarov?

They looked like this for the first 20-25 games.

It’s almost like Babs tried to get this team to play right right off the bat. Then let’s them run looser after they succeed playing right.

Varlamov
Neuvirth
Holtby
Grubauer
Samsonov

That's three legit starters, a quality backup and a top prospect with starting potential. Pretty nuts.
