Another way of looking at it is that the only way JB could upgrade the D corps through free agency was by overpaying a middle pairing Dman and now he is being played on the top pairing to justify said overpayment.

Take away his 6 mil a year and stop expecting him to be the go to guy and I would take him back if he continued to play this way. Pay him as an elite third pairing D . Actually 3 mil would be more appropriate.

I really don't know where I stand on Marky and Tanev. I do know where I stand on Stecher and Schaller. I think some of the growth from the prospects we are ready to move on.

Believe it or not the only UFA I haven't seen a replacement for already in our system is Schaller I would look to other sources for that.

On Marky I'm still not totally convinced he's gonna be a true #1. Demko has progressed good enough really to maybe not worrying about Markstrom's next contract as it will be big if he ends up putting up solid number this year regardless or PO's or not.

You know my position on Tanev-Edler I want them gone. They neither make our team worse or better at this point and I get the Edler Minute-Muncher argument...but at this point it's redundant. We have D men in Utica ready to try in the 5-6 slot IMO. Hughes-Myers-Benn and yes, Stecher would be fine and slot in guys from Utica that have earned it in the 5-6-7 spots.

Schaller to me is a bit like Pearson. Maybe being used improperly by Green? Tough one here and everyone wants Baertchi in the line up but he has been in Utica all year playing a slower game. It will take him two weeks or more of good TOI to get to NHL shape. Gotta think about those things.

I'm ok with Stecher in the 5-6 slot and filling in when needed in the 3-4 slot.

I appreciate what Edler Tanev have done here but man it's time to move on for this club to take that leap IMO.

Edler and Tanev make the team better but not good enough to win anything in this league. Time to trade all 3 of them for draft picks and start drafting a lot of top end defensemen and hope a few come along sooner rather than later.
