Everyone points to this game as the proper response. People forget that the Sabres played the Senators 6 more times that season after that night, including playoffs. The Sabres lost five of them. That "response" did nothing but make a blue collar fanbase feel good about itself.
- buffalofan19

I didn’t embed the video to say it was the proper response. I embedded the video to demonstrate that the cause of the outrage was the hit on the captain.

And the brawl had little to do with why the Sabres lost that series. The “hockey talents” of Peters, Kaleta and Mair - and the original core - is why we lost the series.

The officiating in this league is a joke. A sick demented joke. Worst refs in any major league sport in North America, hands-down. Absolutely no consistency, ever.

It would be a like the NFL refs throwing flags for offside against one team and letting the other team get away with it - every other play. That just doesn't happen.

Or like a MLB ump calling strikes on balls against one team only. Doesn't happen.

The refs should be re-trained and re-trained again.

Tough to win when the best pp in the league is gifted numerous bullpoop calls.
- TheHank

Horrible d there on goal 3:

Eichel loses draw

Olofsson doesn’t cover his point

Risto is hanging out in the slot covering no one, out of position

McCabe lets 2 guys get behind him and get like 4 shots off

Horrible

I want McCabe gone for a forward. I don’t give a poop if people say his toughness will be hard to replace. Bullpoop. He’s a borderline useless player. Montour is plenty tough, Gilmour is better and Borgen has to be better

They won the President's Trophy that year. They had plenty of talent.

I’m assuming you’re kidding or don’t know hockey.

Tb has a triple deflection goal and a 60 ft unscreened goal both on bullpoop penalties.

Buffalo is outshooting tb 29-15 and out quality chancing then 12-4.

Any other comments?

- turbo044

I agree with you, I do. But results matter. Sure outshooting them and outchancing, but can’t score any put it all together. It’s frustrating as a fan. And the enjoyment of watching them play is not there. I have no faith in the resolve of this construct of players that they keep digging and find the twine in the third a few times and get the W. but that’s just my two cents.

If we package McCabe and Erod could that get us even an average veteran Center that can play on the third line so we can move Mitts to the wing full time ? That one trade then upgrades two positions.

From the Tampa end, this is what I am seeing :

Sabres getting killed on faceoffs - not so much this game, but overall during this series. Haven't checked stats today, but yesterday was brutal. Hard to win games when you lose possession after every whistle.

Sabres PK looks sluggish and letting Tampa enter and get set-up too easily.

No push back on physicality - somebody should have ran Kuch after that hip-check.

Sabres losing a lot of one-on-one battles.

Reinhart is a boss.

Sabres goalies look solid. Can't really blame them for deflections and greasy goals. Linus almost stole the first game.

Read somewhere (maybe here) that Jeremy white said rumbling of a trade are all over the place.

Realistically this team is average to slightly above average and a return to form was due after the 9-1-1 start. This isn’t the team from last year after the 10 game streak.

Montour, joker and miller make this d a lot better now and in the future

Johansson has been a big add an Olofsson has had his moments. Vesey has been very streaky in his career and should go on a run sooner or later.

This team is still 2-3 forwards away and hopefully can contend for a playoff spot this year. They also need a bonifide #1 goalie and should get that with 6k maybe as early as next year.

My biggest pet peeve is I wish they would show a response to the poop hit by Kucherov. Where’s the emotion. If we get down more than 2 in period 3 I’d run him, but that’s me

You get it, excellent summary. Add that Sabres can’t capitalize on their chances. Good teams do consistently. Sabres don’t seem to be able to do that for some reason.

Yeah i agree with you. This is an average team as constructed and it’s really frustrating. When the refs are like this even more frustrating. Below average forwards, average defense, below average goalies. Like Ralph and boys better do something. This year other than sitting with his thumb up his ass

All for it but don’t know if they get anything good on return. I would love to see McCabe and scandella traded. I hate Risto most of the time cuz he’s has a hockey IQ of 0, but he’s been better this year

I've had a bug up my arse over the officiating in this league for years. Almost two decades of it. And that is what is so frustrating and infuriating - it's a long term problem that doesn't get addressed. This isn't something new. Fans gripe about it and some people say it's just sour grapes because the calls (or lack of) go against your team. Fine, but I call it when I see it, regardless of which way it goes. Lightning are benefitting from it right now. Next week, we'll be getting screwed by it. The NHL needs to fix this.

Botts isn’t getting fired, even if he does we’ll be praising the new GM for everything he has built. Botts is our “Dark Knight”
