I want winners. Nylander isn't a winner type. As a Leafs fan it's easy to see that as we know better than most. We used to call these guys passengers. Will he live up to his 6.9 million? Maybe. maybe in year 5-8. Maybe never. But either way he will only ever be a stat, not a winner.

I guess IIHF World Championships don't count?

The same guys complain about trading away these young players and them becoming champions.

What young players? The former Leafs winning cups are in their 30's.

On big ice where there is almost zero contact he is a big offensive threat.

Big ice + little contact = Willy success.

Nylander is nowhere near Kessel first off, and yes, plunk Nylander on the wing in Pittsburgh and he may have a shot at a cup, but in Pittsburgh he would be shamed into playing the right way. Kessel was a very different player in Pittsburgh than he was in TO.
- aminnes

Phil Kessel was the exact same player in Pittsburgh.

Which may explain why they traded him, but what'evs.

So no then, I guess. Figured as much. The argument was about him being a winner tho.

You think he was traded after 4 years because he was lazy?

No, I think he was traded after 6 years, because we needed to move on from him, and yeah, he was a little lazy..

Remember Ron Wilson's "two weeks on, two weeks off" comments?

I agree, there has been an internal issue with getting the most out of guys that the club is responsible for. Part of that problem is giving the money up to those who have yet to earn it. Incentive is a powerful thing.

Young players are getting paid earlier.

Get over it.

All ages.

“Can’t win with him”

“Hasn’t gotten to his full potential”

“Doesn’t care”

You guys say the same damn things every year about these players.

It was a famous part of leaf history.

You have very poor takes when it comes to hockey.

I'll get over it by just ignoring you from now on.

He just says things and makes up words like “winner type”

Then he says your wrong when you bring up facts

Tough to talk hockey with someone like that.

I honestly don't think I've agreed with a single thing he's said in regards to the Leafs and hockey.

So I'm feeling pretty confident I'm batting pretty close to 1.000

About what players?

And what young player was traded and won a cup. That's what you said. The only guys that went on to win cups in a quite a long time were older vets.

Oh ok. Wasn't he traded from Pittsburgh because Malkin reportedly said 'it's him or me'

I would choose Malkin too..
