point was; you can't use the league average if you want to guess a probable shooting percentage for a decent forward.
- 21peter

Of course you can when Brown is a league average player.

And he has been shooting at league average for the past 3 years.

Johnsson is exactly what i think he is.
A 3rd line (fringe 2nd line) offensive minded winger that can potentially have 2-3 50 point seasons.

- MaximusAurelius

So now he’s not Frattin/Leipsic/Soshnikov?

Also, Johnsson can kill penalties. He did with the Marlies. Babs is just being Babs.

I went over this. at 10% (his average), at the rate he's shooting now he's hitting 18 goals. He's looking at at least 40 assists I would think (his current rate obviously unsustainable), so he will outscore Willy this year. So will Kap and Johnsson, and you will still defend the club caving to Nylanders hold-out selfish crap.

Is David Pastrnak going to finish with 170 points and 82 goals?

Brown is a good hockey player. He's not a top-6 player for most teams. He's useful. He can forecheck and he has great work ethic. He's savvy enough to play on the PK, but he'll never be your first choice. Playing with guys who can finish, he will also contribute, but I don't think he, himself, is a good finisher. He was good with Erie, but honestly, I don't think he's much more than a 10 - 15 goal scorer in the NHL on average.

I am glad he's doing well in Ottawa. I like him. I would have liked to keep him, but Trevor Moore surpassed him in his role.

His career average is 12.1, which is slightly inflated due to the 14.4 year. He is about a 10, maybe stretch to an 11 realistically.

Nylander is 9.7, also propped up by his short rookie stink that had him at 14%. So he's likely a 10% guy as well.

And to the other poster talking about Brown's shooting % declining the last 3 years, Willy's went off a cliff last year and is still pretty low. And he makes big money.

Well, first we would say Nylander doesn't make $7M. Then I guess, we'd say that Brown is getting over 20 minutes of ice time per game, out of necessity really (Ottawa sucks), and Nylander is getting just over 17 minutes of ice time per game.
- PatC80

Really? 6 962 366 can’t be rounded to 7.
Also, he’s making 9 million this year.

Of course not. If Brown kept pace he'd score 75 points, which I clearly say 40 assists is more realistic.

As far as Moore, I like the guy, but other than killing penalties I do't see the comparison in the player, only the deployment. And he didn't even make the league until he was 23. I see zero comparison.

I feel like Johnsson has the potential to be more than what he's shown, while Brown has proven he can't.

But that's just me trolling yet again.

Lol

He also had a 14.5% shooting percentage his first year which was clearly not sustainable.

The average is 9%

Which would of been 12-13 goals.

He isn’t a top 6 player and it’s obvious.

- Santo_44

Brown also had 4 or 5 Laine Specials (empty net goals) his rookie season.

Wow the argument over Connor Brown, do I miss him yes, was he underevaluated yes, is he a top 6 on most teams, but then again is he a 4th liner no he's not. Brown is a top 9 forward that plays a good game that can translate to top 6 when needed. Nylander is a top 6 forward and over course of time would outscore Brown but at this moment in time, is Nylander holding his end of the bargain, hell no. I believe Nylander can be much better, but he is expendable. Brown was a cap casualty and almost a necessity to be traded with zaitsev many pundits stated the leafs would have to include brown to get rid of zaitsev's contract.

Sucks, and yes Brown was evaluated wrongly as stated before, but wait a minute every team in the league wrongly evaluates players, but the leafs have to be perfect or they suck? Gotta love the Toronto market.

He played in the top 6 at 19 and was fine.

Scored more goals in his rookie year than RNH, Drais, Backstrom
He has twice as many goals as Kuznetsov did and one less point comparing their rookie years.
More goals and 3 less points than Bergeron’s rookie year.
More goals and the same amount of points as Barkov in his first full year.
More goals and more points than Couturier had in his rookie year.
Giroux didn’t hit at least 20 goals until he was 23 years old.
2 less goals and 1 point less than Sean Monahan’s rookie year.

The Leafs had a lot of good young talent - more than most teams. They just had to decide who to keep and who to let go, or burry until the cap made them let them go. They chose to pay more for the same/less player. He’s just another guy the Leafs mismanaged.

He was in Erie till he was 20 so I don't know how he played top 6 then. Didn't play in the NHL till 22
