Connor Brown at 2mln aav can do the same (and actually kill penalties) as johnsson.
But johnsson has a 3.5mln aav (approx) contract.

He’s playing 20 mins a game because he’s on a bad team.

He better be able to generate more shots it’s just simple math.

Tierny, Namestikov, Duclair, Brown...these guys aren’t top 6 players.

They will get their points this year but don’t forget what these players do when they play in their role on good teams Which is about 30 points.

- Santo_44

We are talking about Brown, not the others you mentioned. Brown would be a top 6 on most teams. He was buried to open a spot for Willy, and so far he is sticking it to them playing with way worse players. The ice time difference right now between him and Nylander is his PK time. If Willy was playing with the bums Brown plays with he'd have 2 points this season.

Those other players are examples of 3rd line guys who are scoring with 1st line opportunities.

Brown has never shown any reason to think he’s a top 6 player.

He’s simply not a top 6 player right now.

I feel like Johnsson has the potential to be more than what he's shown, while Brown has proven he can't.

But that's just an opinion.

The club screwed this one up. Why can't fan boys just admit it. The contracts given to Kap and Johnson were perfect and Willy should have came in at around 4-4.5 in comparison. Brown, Kap, and Johnsson have been more valuable than Nylander so far this year and backpacking off last year. Th club (frank)ed up and spent money stupidly in some cases which means they can't augment their defence and can't be a legit team.

Leafs get a younger better player for 3 more years @ 3.4 mil
Brown is an RFA and will sign another deal probably at least that much...since he will get the crappy sens top line mins point bump

Lol

He also had a 14.5% shooting percentage his first year which was clearly not sustainable.

The average is 9%

Which would of been 12-13 goals.

He isn’t a top 6 player and it’s obvious.

- Santo_44

Last season 14.5% was the average for the top50 goalscorers.

You can't take the average for ALL the players in the league if you want to guess a probable result for a decent forward...!

So scoring as much or more than other prominent NHL top 6 players in comparing rookie seasons isn't a reason? And as Seagull said yesterday Babs demoted him after that. Did Calgary demote Monahan? Did Washington demote Kuznetsov after he only bagged 11 goals as a rookie? No. Leafs misevaluated their players. This has been happening for a long time, I don't get the surprise.

My bad.

Brown is obviously as good as a goal scorer as Laine, Matthews, Kane.

He scored with a 14.5%......

Those seasons aren’t comparables.

You want proof? Look at the ones after it. He’s not a 14.5% shooter.

On a 3 year deal, sure. For 6 years? Nope. 6-6.5 is where his cap hit should be.

Well, first we would say Nylander doesn't make $7M. Then I guess, we'd say that Brown is getting over 20 minutes of ice time per game, out of necessity really (Ottawa sucks), and Nylander is getting just over 17 minutes of ice time per game.

I went over this. at 10% (his average), at the rate he's shooting now he's hitting 18 goals. He's looking at at least 40 assists I would think (his current rate obviously unsustainable), so he will outscore Willy this year. So will Kap and Johnsson, and you will still defend the club caving to Nylanders hold-out selfish crap.

so far Browns sh% has declined each season..and the trend is continuing in Ottawa, granted very short sample so far. he may settle in at 8-9%

he is a pretty average player, likable..but not miss-able

Johnsson is exactly what i think he is.
A 3rd line (fringe 2nd line) offensive minded winger that can potentially have 2-3 50 point seasons.
