Even so we’ve got a good team and should be fine 4v4. It was a sick shot by Krug but Geno and Rust not getting enough was just bad defending

13 game point streak for Marchand btw

- WSCTeton17

I thought Geno looked very strong tonight, and he didn't do too many skate-bys. Still, he needs to win that puck battle 4v4. Krug is a lot smaller.

Another positive: The anchor of JJ was +2 while playing +2:40 on the perfect PK.

Crunch time I saw Geno try to skate through about 3 defenders with an open net behind him. Lucky that didn't end the game right there. Then, with the extra attacker, he holds the puck at the point for about 30 seconds with only a minute left in the game. I'd like to see more from him. And what's with all of his dump-ins to himself? He just doesn't engage his teammates like a good center should do.

1 point in the last 2 games when we completely dummied 2 teams. That's hard to watch

Jacko has been surprisingly solid for us on the 3rd line and PK.

I felt bad for Galchenyuk. He deserved a goal.

We played well but we gave away at least 2 bad goals tonight. Unacceptable goaltending.

We’ll be fine moving forward.

No, they're 0-2. Clearly he's effed the chemistry.

If this was the playoffs now. Edmonton would get smashed one a 7 game series. Boston seems to be the team in the east, if not the nhl, and at least pitt showed they can compete with them... provided the goaltending shows up.

Tampa was the team to beat last year and we saw how that turned out. Everyone is trying to project stuff wayyyy too early. We aren't even 20 games in. So many things can happen between and the middle of the season, let alone the playoffs.

Teams will fizzle, surge, get major injuries, make major trades, etc...

The first line is a bit snakebit and appears to be losing a bit of steam. I think Sid could use some help on the defensive side going up against a loaded first line like they have.

For any dumbpoops thinking Geno has anything to do with this, the Pens have played their best hockey as a team since he's been back. Sometimes bounces just don't go your way and one or two costly mistakes and cost you the game.

I was thinking the same with the goalie pulled, Galchenyuk bailed him out there with a controlled entry. That’s typical Pens though: one of Malkin, Letang, or Phil would turn it over with the net empty and it’s game over

That top line of Boston hums right along against every team. I agree that Rust is probably a better fit than Tanev for games like this, but a real shutdown stud like a Parayko would go a lot further imo. We just can’t afford a guy like that

It’s kinda funny how people talk about how it’s silly to load up a top line yet here’s Edmonton and Boston cruising right along, Avs do it a lot too, Vegas even before they got Stastny/Patches, etc. It works for lots of teams, it just depends on your makeup (no offense to RNH or Krejci as I like em both)

If we learned one thing last year it is this, do not put either Riikola or Johnson on their off side. They both tried it and although commendable it was not pretty.

We did have guys going to the net last night, which I thought would be a problem. It wasn't, yes Rust screwed up taking the net off on Galchenyuk's goal. I still like the fact he took on TWO guys in front. That will lead to more goals in the long run.

The two best at screening the goalie were Bjugstad and Blueger. If Blueger can play his off wing I would give him a shot at replacing the golden boy when that experiment is over. Which could be today.

For the most part the remainder of the team did get to the slot to deflect shots (even Simon) so that was a positive.

By the way Kahun should never be scratched again.

Not a huge sample size yet this season but to my eyes the Pens have been bad 4 on 4 when these situations occur.

So am I the only one who thought the turning point was simply Letang going out? Team couldn't press the same without him.

I like those 2nd and 3rd lines. Bjugstad finally looked like last year.

Ultimately, 3 bad angle goals against was too much to overcome.

Pettersson-Schultz I believe at one point we're up 7-1 in scoring chances against. But that one was both of them chasing the puck with Marchand and Pasta in front of their net. That's what I'm coming to expect from them: a weapon that helps control play, but they get a little lost when forced to defend too long on a shift.

The end of the second couldn't come quick enough for the Bruins. The are a good team and when they got a chance to relax and compose themselves between periods, that was big. Next both Sid and Rust had very good scoring chances that they couldn't bury. Lastly the Krug goal was just what Boston needed. Marchant made a heck of a play, beating both Malkin and Rust. I thought Malkin and Rust both did the right thing, Malkin going for the steal and Rust taking the body. Marchant just made the play.
