Well here we go again Sabres fans... remember last year when the Sabres won 10 straight games at the start of the season and then became the worst team in the league? They now have lost 3 games in a row and are looking every bit the part of a very bad team.... Is last place waiting for them in December again?

You realize that we outshot the opponents in 8 out of 15 games. In games we loss we outshot the other teams 3 out of 6 games. Our high danger shots are 117 for and 116 against. We are outshooting our opponents in both the 1st and 2nd periods, but are badly outshot in the 3rd. And being outshot badly in the 3rd (189-112) we only gave up 2 more goals than what we scored (13-11) in the period. Unlike the 1st period where we are outshooting the other teams, but are scoring less (17-11).
For the HD chances, even though we have more shots (only by 1) the other teams capitalized on 16 compared to 11 for the Sabres. We are tied for 6th in the league for HD chances but are tied for 26th in HD goals. It's not that we aren't getting chances, but more our bad sh%. Only two teams have a lower HDSH% than us. We are at 11.8% where the top 9 teams are over 20% with the highest at 27.5%.

Here's the net out of the season, as early as it is
-The System is highly desireable so far, although they continue to be victim of high-pressure attacks themselves...It is early, not alot of practice time to reinforce teachings, so I expect it to improve with more time to correct things
-The Coaching Staff seems to have much more than a clue, although they have shown signs of resistance to making in-game changes to the lines, and have been slow to mix-up lines game-by-game when in the most recent rut...last night might be evidence (albeit still a loss) that change can be used as a disruption to falling into bad habits
- the new additions Botts made are showing favorably, it would be nice to see Vesey get on with some production. Joker, Mojo and Miller have been good for the team. VO is young and still learning the NHL, that said is he seems over cautious at 5v5, doesn't seem to attack the net with or without the puck...again, he's young and has a history of figuring g it out after some time in the lesser leagues. I'm not hitting the panic button.
-they still have glaring holes, as we suspected they would entering the season. For me, they are at
2C/2RW, 3RW, 1st RhD. Those are areas for upgrades, in addition to improving g the production of L4 (in the off-season) IMO. And it needs to be said, because it is always, always twisted by some...DOES NOT NEED TO BE IMMINENT, AND NOT ALL ARE EXPECTED TO BE FILLED (seems very obvious to most, but I digress)
-the Sabres have assets that can be packaged to secure at least one of those areas of need in the bullet above, likely 2. I previously posted my preference on who I would make available, and went so far as to propose a relatively large trade to do so. IF THEY WERE TO ACQUIRE YOUNG TALENT AT THOSE AREAS OF NEED via trade; I believe 1) it would be more cost efficient to do so in-season, rather than through FA, since we have seen FA costs increase rather dramatically, 2) using futures (prospects, draft picks) in a package would be both needed as well as appropriate to do so.
-those S% metrics would point to the need to upgrade our forward ranks, especially in the top 9, but even the LOG line as well. Sobotka at 4.3% and Vesey at 0.0% are very, very obvious targets.

My main point all along has been the roster has obvious areas of upgrades needed, not demanding it now, rather pointing to specific areas of need for clarity.
But some have pointed to 9-2-2 as a reason to sit pat.
