Extend the year? What kid wouldn’t want that? I’m not allowed to go on strike, and they shouldn’t be either.

80-125k a year with a full pension and tenure for a 9 month job isn’t bad. Never heard a group of people complain so consistently about the career that they chose.
- Ogilthorpe2

I NEVER made 80 K when I retired in 2006...maybe in a suburban system like Glendbard were the TAX Base helps increase salarires and any after school coaching or extras are counted towards your pension....doesnt happen in the City.

Teachers may not have the opportunity to get rich but they can certainly be very comfortable for life. Less upside but a lot less downside too.
- DarthKane

Oh, I am comfortable now due to some good investments and savings but until you have taught, just like until you are a police peace officer, or a fireman, it is tough to understand the magnitude and things you go through day to day....

Vancouver looking poised to be a Wild Card team this year with the spectacular play of Pettersson and Boeser. Nucks could use Seabrook
- EnzoD

If they keep this up they won't be a wild card, they will be in the top 1-2 in their division.

That can be said about any profession, it doesn't make teaching any more or less challenging than other roles.

allright...why does buff sit around all summer with an injury and then decide 6 months later to have surgery...do the jets not manage their employees in the offseason??
- bogiedoc

Probably because he doesn't want to play hockey this year.

LOL

do its first then tell me that ANY profession is close- no water cooler time, long periods in situations you cannot leave...because you are liable, and constantly having to pull together discussion, focus and learning, actually ANY to me or to anybody who has done it, doesn't apply.

!) I agree with lightfoot. don't pay the teachers there full salary because they take 2 weeks off..
- kmw4631

Just curious...

all of you bumping your gums...how many actual weeks off do your jobs give you, honestly?

CTU teachers get ten paid vacation days a year....
they get paid one off the two weeks at Christmas laid off the other.

Paid for holidays like Thanksgiving (that is a bonus second day)

("You teachers, you get the entire summer off")
prior to maybe 2000, you had to budget that $ summer long or work elsewhere, now the Board has all on year round, so the money all employees already earned IS HELD to be allotted in two week checks all summer, basically they are making money on the money of others.

While I taught the board borrowed Money FROM the teachers union, still couldn't budget well, and they closed the schools and we were laid off.

If you think any Chicago teacher ever wanted to Strike stand in a picket line or didn't have more than their wallets and pocketbooks in mind by doing so, you are delusional.

See you all after Thanksgiving.

Stick to discussing whatever you want on this hockey website, but you all better and more valued in the hockey opinions...

Except wherever you are getting your numbers is bullcrap. I was a teacher for 10 years in River Forest (super wealthy) and with a bachelors and a masters after 10 years my base salary was 52k, nowhere near the numbers you are incorrectly spouting off. It's not a 9 month job, it's a 60-80 hour a week job during those 9 months that averages out to exactly as much as you regular 9-5ers would do. Your argument literally has no foundation to stand on, especially if you've never done the job. The teachers have every reason to strike for better pay and a better work environment.

No doubt it's a tough job, but not one I would put at the top of my empathy list. That would probably belong to either nurses and/or the staff at senior care facilities.

First the Hawks announce Dach is here to stay, the next day they recall Boqvist. Will this mark the shift to their youth movement?

But it's one of those in which doing a bad job or not having tools to do the job is much more consequential to society at large.

What do you do with the current roster then? Gus on the move? While he is playing like crap... probably won't get a whole lot in return.

- bhawks2241

I'm talking about during the school year, not during the summer. And yes, there were many MANY nights I would be closing the school down with the janitors at 9 or 10pm on a weeknight. The days I actually did go home at maybe 4pm? Then I'd be grading at home for 3-4 hours a night, lesson planning, answer at least 10-15 emails from parents or other staff, etc. I was not alone in doing any of that, and this was in a high performing district. So yeah, during those 9 months of school, many teachers were working far more than 40 hours a week. So if you actually read what I said, then you'd get my point that the 60-80 hours a week we put in would roughly balance out to your 9-5 job 12 months a year with 3-4 weeks paid vacation. It's the same equivalent, yet all of us have more high ed degrees and got less pay. Very few teachers I knew at our district got paid over 100k, and I would know considering I had all the numbers for the district being our union president. None of you have any argument that will refute that teachers are over worked and underpaid. Period.

I believe I read that his doctor thought it would heal without surgery. It didn't so he had it now.

What indications are there that his play will improve before the TDL? I highly doubt Gus is going to flip the switch and he might actually not become a big defensive liability.

I'm just curious here, but from what we have seen in boqvist up to this point, he clearly brings a offensive threat from the backend that Chicago is deeply missing .

I guess if he can help ignite some offensive production , wouldn't that make Gus expendable?

Their might be some trade chatter regarding Seabrook? Teams mentioned Edmonton and I believe Montreal?

- Taylorst1

You continue to make things up. Neither of those teams have ever been mentioned. If you're as smart as you think you are you'd know that neither of those teams wants aging overpaid players and don'y have the cap space even if they did.

The fact that many educators have to crowdfund basic supplies on donorschoose.org just breaks my heart (daughter of a former educator and thankful recipient of a well-funded district's public school education).
