Its time to bury him 5v5 its not a bad thing, btu there is a reason hes a 7th round pick
- hubie

He was a 7th round pick (and wasn't picked in his first year of eligibility) because:

a. Nobody knew him
b. He was listed 5'7" 145 on the scouting reports when he actually had grown to 5'10" 170

Now Olofsson stinks

good god you guys do not deserve nice things

kid was killing penalties in rochester

he will be fine

perhaps a line shuffle and flipping him and vesey for a few games will work but he is a rookie

would those that want to bench olofsson be ok if they benched dahlin as well

serious question

you guys suck today

I think VO may need a game or two in the PB.

He has been lackluster except for standing in the slot on teh PP.
- ImThatGuy

Yep - you're that guy. Let's bench the rookie scoring leader. And I don't car where his points come from. He carries the puck into the O zone more than Reinhart does.

- turbo044

I am scratching my head as well.

To add....He is not the guy in the slot on the PP Skinner is. He flanks the top of the umbrella (Usually Dahlin) to the right (his offside), opposite of Eichel.

I'm just wondering, does Eichel have 6 points in 11 games, or does he have 14 points in 11 games?

Does Olofsson have 2 points or 9 points?

I guess people want Eichel to have 20 points in 11 games. Sure, that would be great, but he's doing ok with "only" 14.

Side note - I still dont like Vesey and I probably never will

one thing i will say in his defense... granted im not intently watching as most but seems PP hes on his off wing where he likes to be but 5v5 he is on the other side.

Vesey is a slightly less talented version of Clarke MacArthur. Keep him with Mittelstadt and let Olofsson- who actually has top-6 potential- grow into his role

People had unrealistic expectations for Olofsson. I kept saying all offseason, don't just gift him a top line role, and don't expect more than 30-35 points. Second or third liner with 1st PP time, and maybe 18-20 goals or so. Those were ambitious but realistic expectations.

So I'm really pleased that he was able to come out of the gate and have a hot start. It's all the crazy talk about comparisons to Panarin (which other than their age being the same are laughable), and talk of 30+30 that is the problem. The kid is a rookie and will play like one. He isn't an elite NHL first line wing after 11 games, but it's not on him you expect that.

huh?

Tbh I just want them to dominate 5 on 5 like they did last year.

We saw what happens when a PP goes stagnant against ANA and the 5 on 5 game isn’t gelling

That's standard practice. Pretty tough to take a one timer on your natural side. He just can't seem to find or create space to get his shot off at even strength.

Eventually, he'll be back with Skinner. It's just better.

It doesn't matter. He has 14 points in 11 games. Idgaf if he scored them all shorthanded on an empty net

We really need to figure out how to overcome the matchups while on the road. This year at home Jack has 5g 8a. On the road he has 1g 0a. In his career he has 143 points at home and 130 on the road. Not sure if it's been done, if it would work, or if it is a good idea, but what if they played Jack with Skinner on the road and put Olofsson with Jack at home?

Yes. So much yes. He has skill. But he's playing in the NHL for the first time (outside of a handful of games last year). Why do people not take into account there's going to be a bit of a learning curve?

I also get the idea that maybe the top line isn't exactly the best place for him at the moment, but I don't think the bottom 6 is either. I think he's in general a top 6 player, we just have to give him time to adjust and grow into it.

A goal or point is just that at the end of the day. Just like a win is a win. When you look at it later on, it doesn't matter how you got it at the end of the day.

This isn't directed at you, but we are talking about a rookie who has 9 points in 11 games. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills

Sure. Just having points doesn’t win hockey games. Being really good 5 on 5 does.

Hell, being good 5 on 5 gets you to the PP in the first place.

I’m also not bashing Eichel either

I'm with you. I don't get it. I don't think he's hurting that line to be honest. I'd love to see him be a bit more "visible" if you will 5v5 right now, but he's still figuring things out, as a rookie, facing the top defensive pairings of the other team more often than not.

Well, haven't they been generating PP chances in general? They're tied for the league lead with 42 PPs.

And we’ve been good overall 5 on 5.

But the Eichel line absolutely isn’t generating like they were last season to this point
