Just had a thought.
I think the trade deadline this year if going to be straight awful.

So many teams are cap strapped that it is nearly impossible to make a move.

Should make acquiring rentals that much cheaper. I think you’ll see multiple impending UFA’s swapped for each other with the team with playoff aspirations also sending draft capital over.

Yeah, I would pass on AA too. I would look into Puljujarvi first. The cost to acquire would be lower, salary would be a fraction of the cost, and I feel he has a higher ceiling.

High risk high reward - thinking I his defensive deficiencies might scare teams away

But by the trade deadline you only need room for like 20% of the players annual salary cap. Teams are against it more than usual this years due to the cap not moving up as some teams hoped, but there’s usually a way to make room

What about when a guy like McCabe cheap shots a terrific player like laine with an open ice hit? Shouldn't a jet be allowed to avenge their boy who was so very wronged?

It’s definitely possible to move someone to create space. The pens just did it yesterday. The leafs did it this summer

Scheiffle should have been suspended for 5 games for that pass

It will,be interesting to see what Botts does, does he use Scandella to open up cap space, which will be hard with most team's not having the cap room. Pittsburgh just flipped 1 to Anaheim for scraps, but opened up 4 mill in space. Probably for Rust who must be close to coming of LTIR, would you do Spector's trade proposal now, Scandella for Rust. Botts has some thinking to do.

That was a clean hit, however I agree with the avenging part.

Not really though. It can be a one for one swap with the buying team including picks or prospects. If Florida is out of it at the deadline, we could trade for Hoffman using Bogosian (almost identical salaries) and include picks or prospects.

if 3 of these 4 things happen

1.if your bringing back sheary

2.signing reinhart

3. expect tage to be a top 9 player by NEXT season

4. and giving cozens a shot next season

IMO you do not need rust for the next 2 seasons

We don’t need Rust, and I’d also hesitate on extending an offer to Sheary or Vesey as well until we know what the UFA landscape will look like.

Exactly. That’s one of a few examples of exchanging guys on expiring deals like I mentioned earlier. Minnesota will be an interesting spot with Koivu and Staal (although he has another year after this year).

I think cozens is 100% on this roster next year. He showed way too many good signs before we sent him down.

Couple things to think about with that. Sheary can play either wing, but is a natural LW. Rust can also play either side, but is a natural RW. Rust is a bit bigger. Rust is under contract for $3.5m while Sheary is at $3m, but what will he want to re-sign? I would guess more than $3.5m and for longer. He will be 28, so it will be his last chance for a bigger payday.

I can't see sheary getting more then 4 mil on the open market, unless he gets 25 goals this season

but that's just my opinion

Right.
Not to be snarky, but the Risto defenders will use this for the next 70 games.

He isn't useless, not what I'm saying at all.
But using last night as some sort if standard of his play (against o bottom 2 team) is as bad as holding Jack to his 4 point game the other night as his standard.

Too many 2nd pairings. Expensive compared to need.
Trade bait to fix the roster.
IMO.

- IonSabres

Risto bashers are just waiting for the next game.
Bag on the guy for months, then : Risto played a great game

He has been part of 3 shutouts in 2 weeks.

Top 10 defensive minutes on the 1st overall team in the nhl.

Not just one great game. Many
