I'm not taking anything away from DeSmith, but I don't think Jarry clears. Nobody wanted DeSmith. Great asset management from GMJR and it's paying off.

Things I've noticed over the last few years of limited viewing of Jarry. Got a good glove and he's a really good puck handler.

I have and had nothing but good things to say about Jarry.

Also, it's actually POOR asset management that led to Jarry starting with the Pens.

Dude, I remember a few convos this off-season where everyone was saying he's basically a bust not good enough to be a back-up.
- Rinosaur

Yeah, I'll admit I was one of them, but he's looked great.

I'm going to pat myself on the back and say I always said Jarry was capable. EVERYONE was trashing him before the season started and now everyone is licking has bumhole.

I'm sure this guy had to work really hard to convince himself that he was right about hockey

I’m the one that’s been saying trade Murray because his return would far outweigh his value to the team. You know, in case you were wondering.

How so? We had 3 good goalies.....none waiver exempt. We still have 3 good goalies. We can bi tch about cap management, but so far JR is making it work without giving away assets.

If you want to venture down the Guddy/JJ road....well yeah, that's not good.

The Pens were over the cap and had to send DeSmith down to be cap compliant.

Doc commenting on the game: and the puck comes from forward converted defensemen, at least for the mean time, Jusso Riikola

I'll say this, even if the Pens lose this game Jarry was lights out. 40 shots with 15 minutes to go? Nuts.

They had other options. Fortunately JR read the market correctly.

He made a decision that turned out to be favorable in bad situation he placed himself in.

God awful play by Gudbranson on the boards. Who was that to? Johnson?

Both of them effed that in A. JJ going for the hit rather than the smart play.

Eh that’s overly critical since no one really ever wants to carry three goalies. That would probably have happened even if we didn’t need to get cap compliant.

You think he would have sent DeSmith down regardless?

The 2nd and 3rd pair have both been pretty brutal tonight.

Dangling someone as a trade chip doesn't necessarily mean you don't like the player. DeSmith was extended, so it seemed inevitable Jarry would be moved. It was only poor roster management by JR that led to DeSmith having to be sent down and Jarry getting a shot.
- Rinosaur

But why dangle a player you like who has extremely little trade value in the first place? That’s something I do know that we talked about this summer, how young goalies with little success have very little in the way of trade value. He’s on a 1-way contract this year so it would’ve been possible to lose him for nothing. But what was he worth, a 5th? Especially when everyone had a shot at DeSmith who had a .916 and 15 wins. The reward of keeping him and hoping he clears waivers far surpasses a possible 5th rounder

You are digging deep in a very basic situation. Jarry was already rumored to being shopped, that's all. Had nothing to do with my personal thoughts of him. Go back to your hole.
