I spent a week in Canada last week and watched a fair amount of election coverage on CBC. I admire the Canadian respect for one another and the general acknowledgment that there is a social contract guiding that principal. I wish we had more of that civility here in the States. - Chief4Feathers

There has been talk about that. There is also been lots of discussion of splitting California into 3 states, for the same reason, LA and SFO rule the legislature because of population, but the majority of the land mass is farming. - LAHawk
Did that referendem get held there yet? i was reading about that and thought it was crazy. Ive visited a few different parts of cali and absolutly love it. you guys would fit well here in Canada! |

Random interesting note: Vegas was credited with only 5 high-danger scoring chances last night (per Natural Stat Trick), tied for the fewest the Blackhawks have allowed since March 2017.

hmm seemed like more as I watched the game...particularly in the 3rd...but defensively that is good news..
lehner starts: posted a 1.93 goals-against average. .943 %save and 3.52 goals saved above average in three starts. Not sure how that 3rd stat is calculated |

Didn't see either of these posted before:
Colliton on why Boqvist wasn't called up: "Ultimately, we want to see him down there [in the AHL] defending the way he's going to have to up here, and that's the challenge for him."
Toews on his lack of production:
"The puck's not going in because I'm not getting chances. Can't just magically put it in the net if I'm not getting shots, not creating chances. Got to start there."
Completely agree about Boqvist. On Toews, it makes sense. The question is why can't he create the chances? Trying to do it all himself? Concentrating too much on D? etc. Hopefully he gets it turned around quick. If we even had one of our top two lines working, we would be really dangerous. |

yeah, seemed like LV was camped in our zone all 3rd period, but they were along the boards and blue line most of the time. Hawks did a great job of keeping them to the perimeter and it goes without saying - was a group effort!!! Def big time progress

No because the existing legislature won't put it on the ballot. Wouldn't be approved anyway. Congress has to vote on it. Go from 100 to 104 senators? dilutes a senator's power.

Don't know if you're retired but it's easy to lose track of days if you are. The only day I'm sure of is Sunday because the newspaper is much thicker. - boilermaker100
I rarely know what day of the week it is...do I work today or not is about the extent of daily awareness.
Last week I left home 30 minutes early because of rush hour traffic only to realize after I turned the radio on that it was Saturday. |

A few have been slagging Toews, Strome, ADB etc. lately because their production isn't there. All summer most of these same posters were lamenting how pathetic JC and his defensive system was and that Crawford was there when, not if, when JC failed. I noticed the team defense has been better, players seemed to have bought into JC's system and the team looks allot more competitive. So now instead of discussing this improvement, that was never going to happen, they turn on the offensive production of the team and a few specific players.
When a team learns a new system they almost always sacrifice offensive as they work on and understand their defensive responsibilities. We saw it in 2009, we see it in most sports but we also see the offensive production return once the players feel comfortable with their new found defensive responsibilities. I expect in mid Novemeber the offense will pick up and the team will also continue to play a sound defenisive game. Of course these same posters who don't seem to want to see the positive will then find new "problems", I'm guessing it will be the team doean't hit, they aren't good on faceoffs and the post goal song sucks. - paulr
The D zone play is still kind of atrocious. Though the last game they were better at breaking up stuff in the neutral zone and Keith hasn't been abhorrent.
Toews starts most seasons like garbage. Debrincat isn't playing with a set up man and Strome has been playing fine just not scoring. Hes a guy that needs the puck playing with two other guys that need the puck (Dach and Kane).
I'd have Dach center Toews and Shaw and let Kane run around with Strome and El Gato and go from there. Players that compliment each other rather than jamming square pegs in round holes.

Things may have changed in recent years, but my impression while living there for a couple of years between ‘99-‘00 and again ‘07-‘08 was that most of the Puerto Rican people have no interest in becoming a state. |

I’ve only visited P.R. during trips to the V.I. - but it seems really beautiful. Is it cool living there - or is it one of those situations that seems nice until you have to spend an extended period of time - and then it sucks?
I know your feelings about the Florida climate - so I’m interested in whether you found P.R. to be different. |

I posted it to show you have people that do the right thing too. He was right, Obama wasn't an Arab, Muslim, monster etc. he was a good man who had a different set of political ideals. Funnily enough, Obama in Canada would be right of center. |

I was in Greece the last three weeks and I saw what happens when there is a small tax base. The country runs basically as a cash underground, no one wants to deal in anything but cash. I have never seen so many credit/debit card scanners that don't work and the deals offered if cash is used instead of credit/debit cards. No, taxes aren't fun but they are also an neccesary evil if you want the conveniences offered by countries that have a stable tax base. - paulr
I said that because all summer here there were arguments about Tampa having a no income tax advantage or not? |

Mixed bag. Has it’s problems and it’s charms. It’s like most vacation hot spots...a pretty big difference between the tourist version and the every day version. The further you get from San Juan, the better, IMO. Still not my favorite climate, but not nearly as brutal as south Florida either. Always a breeze and it cools off at night. |

Not entirely...she a bit extreme. I do think that a government that tries to do too much and uses ever increasing taxes and regulations to do it, no matter how good the intentions, risks alienating the very people/businesses that provide the majority of the tax revenue stream.
Only so many times you can rob Peter to pay Paul before Peter finds a safer neighborhood. - Ogilthorpe2
Chicago area counties have the highest property taxes in the country but they balance it by having the highest sales and ever rising state income taxes. I don't see the great payback call it the "cost of corruption."

For those of you who were in the discussion this morning about Murphy’s LTIR and Bob McKenzie commenting about the Hawks and Dach, here’s an excerpt:
“TSN's Bob McKenzie reported Wednesday on NBCSN that: "You don't have to make a decision on this right now, so Stan Bowman and the Chicago Blackhawks won't, but if you twisted their arm and said you do have to make a decision, I think they're definitely leaning towards this guy being an NHL player this season."
The roster move the Blackhawks made earlier in the day indicates the organization is making sure it can afford Dach's services in case he does stay the whole season.
Connor Murphy was placed on long-term injured reserve (LTIR) Wednesday with a groin injury, which means he'll be sidelined for a minimum of 10 games and 24 days. By putting him on LTIR instead of regular injured reserve, the Blackhawks get some cap relief and that’s noteworthy when you factor in Dach's potential performance bonuses that could reach up to $2.5 million.
When Dach was activated and recalled, the Blackhawks exceeded the 7.5 percent cushion in total amount of potential performance bonuses by $595,000, according to Cap Friendly. That number was then applied to the cap, which put the Blackhawks near the upper limit. So every dollar counts, considering the bonus money rolls over to next season's salary cap if there isn’t enough financial space at the end of the season to absorb the hits.”
