I’m ok with Schultz. For a 2nd pairing dman the Pens could do a lot worse. Also depending on what they can get in trade I’m fine with giving him a $1 to $1.5M raise.
For me it comes down to what the alternatives are. One year of Green for me is fine if the Pens have a legitimate plan to replace him after this year.
If Marino is their plan for 2nd pairing RD there’s a problem. - Rinosaur
I don't think Marino is a 2nd pair either. I also have doubts about Addison getting there (seems like he's not really improving), certainly not soon. They may eventually battle for the 3rd pair spot.
Leaves the Pens in a tough spot. Is that a spot they think they can eventually fill internally? If so, don't sign a big UFA. But if not, they need to spend on that spot or make a smart trade. |

We have an open roster spot, yet they still didn't bring up a spare forward so we get more LW Riikola. A. Johnson out. |

I don't see Hornqvist sticking with Sid because of the speed game Sid wants to play, but I wonder if they won't give him another look with Malkin for how productive he's been so far. I thought he ha a home on that third line to, but they might want to keep him in a scoring role. - Tojo.
Oh I’m sure he will. Hornqvist will be all over the lineup probably. He usually plays well with just about any center in spurts before having to be relocated to catch fire again. |

My logic may be a little weird on this, but here goes...
1) I think he’s 2nd pair capable. Is he as good as Green? No, but that doesn’t mean he’s not 2nd pair capable.
2) What’s the alternative? The UFA market isn’t deep and it’s likely some of the bigger names remain with their teams. So what, is Marino going to be the 2nd pairing RD? No thank you.
I’d rather have Schultz who I believe is capable for a small raise than have a bottom pairing guy in his place.
If the Pens can move other assets and replace him then it should he explored, but given the current situation I’m keeping him. - Rinosaur
No way do I think they should re-sign him. He will be on the wrong side of 30 next season and he has been injured a lot the past two seasons. Also, he's pretty bad at defense.
I would even explore trades now if it means getting rid of one of the anchor contracts and maybe improving the third pairing with a cheaper contract. The potential extra space would open up options for an additional trade(s). |

At least it accrues some cap space for the bad times... no, wait...

I watched the whole thing and only paid attention to him...he got hit in the corner and was favouring his hand the rest of the time...when he finally got a chance to change he screamed fvck! as he got to the gate and just went straight to dressing room. |

It's fine to explore trade options, but to just move him or let him walk is a huge mistake unless you have a back-up plan. "Seeing what we have" in some of these guys is not wise. |

Tall task for the kids to hang with this team. It’d help if Sully doesn’t put out our third pair with the 4the line against Stammers line. |

No clue. Surprised the Pens didn't make a stink about it. What a weenie Maroon is there. Hopefully he will still have to answer for that BS.
