exactly my point , andersen can play 2 nights in a row no problem, they could
have won last night with him in net, save hutchinson for the SJ game and then
put Andersen back in against habs with 4 days rest ...

babcock is an idiot , enuf said.... team is not playing for him and his goalie rotation is stupid...

the sooner he is gone the better....

- CarlitoBrigante

Any Goalie can play b2b, thats not the issue.
The Leafs are trying to reduce Andersens workload during the reg season, so its dumb to play him 2 days in a row.

based on his own comments after the Season, and Babs decisions this season, they are clearly going to do that.

the issue is the backups have not been good enough, so there is crying about Andersen not playing. Dubas has to figure out the backup.

too bad Marner got 2 mil more than he should have to leave ZERO (frank)ing space to help

Didn't like the loss much either, couple of passengers tonight. I think Hutch was actually quite lucky a couple of posts and a disallowed goal. Refs were better but still sub standard, Chara had to punch Goat in the face to finally give the Leafs first power play against the Bruins this year. Better team won tonight, Matthews, Marner and Nylander all sucked ass. And Gig - you need to take a shower to clean yourself up after CKOUG agrees with you.

hutch looks like a beer league goalie compared to andersen.

drops too many pucks.

slow to get back to his feet (though maybe partially andersen is unbelievalby fast).

takes himself out of position after the 1st save.

time to kick him to the curb.

A very nice system...in theory. But, with the CAP crunch of so many teams. It becomes a luxery to even have a decent backup at 2-3 million. Can't see too many teams being willing to pay for THREE starting goalies. A few teams might, but most probably couldn't even entertain such an idea.
- hawk35

I don't think it's really as big a deal as some on here want to make it (I'm guessing most of the opposition is because it's Max's proposal).

In theory, it shouldn't be a great burden to any team.

With 23 roster positions, I don't really see a problem with 13 forwards, 7 D, 3 goalies.

Is that really such a terrible change from 14 forwards, 7 D, 2 goalies?

With more and more teams locating their affiliates closer to home, are we really sticking to the idea that you need 2 extra forwards to sit in the press box every night?

The third goalie would be a league-minimum guy. Which does make sense - how often does a goalie get pulled and the team comes back to win the game? Almost never. At that point, it's merely mop-up duty - get the game overwith, hit the showers and move on.

As I stated yesterday, teams can simply bring an extra forward on road trips anyways - they don't actually have to be on the NHL roster to board the plane.

So you pay a minimum of $700k or more considering that the league minimum is going to go up - for a guy who's sole purpose is to backup the backup and fill in when the backup plays poorly and is pulled?

That's a lot of money to pay for a guy who maybe gets in net 3 times / year.

You never know. I don't like the idea of the "opener" in baseball, but it's a thing. I don't much like the idea of the backup's backup either.

I mean it feels sort of like . . I'm busy, so I hire an assistant, and my assistant is occasionally busy, so I hire them an assistant who is never busy. What am I paying for?

- Monkeypunk

It's the most important position on the team, so I'm at least open to the idea of experimenting to see if it would help.

Aren't we only carrying 21 roster players right now, due to cap constraints? We don't have that luxury..

He also said Mark the Janitor Jankowski would be the best player of the 2012 draft by the time he was 26...so he's going to score 150 points next season!

Button needs to be dramatic, to stand out, so that he can keep his job...because he's not very good at it.

Says the fan of the team with two #1 goalies
- PatC80

lol. A rarity my friend. That will be down to one, and a scrub by next year. Two 5 million dollar goalies are not a long term solution. Strictly done because of Craw's health and age. We will be back to one "Guy" and a scrub before long. As most teams are...

I miss Doug "Did you know I drafted Rick Nash" MacLean and how he didn't have any answer as to why he didn't draft anybody else of consequence or get anywhere with Mr. Nash.

Currently carrying 23, but that number will come down when Hyman comes back.

And in Max's defence, I don't think he was suggesting that the Leafs do it this year.

He was saying that it could be a solution for any team.

I'm not in love with Hutch either (his puck handling especially), but his performance isn't why we lost last night. The goaltending was adequate. The team in general wasn't very good last night. It looks like our stars are trying to do too much.. if I had $1 for every time Marner has held onto the puck a little too long this year, if have a few beers to drown my sorrows.
