I thought that as well but early indications certainly aren't there.
But give it a bit of time maybe. I don't think Green has the patience to say 'hey Jake, you have all season to play with Bo to get your shat together' lol - LordHumungous
Green said he liked him on Bo's line last game. JV just has to keep improving to earn the top 6 role. its funny how the trade JV rants run after he's had some good games.
Remember when everyone here was on markstroms case and I said let him develop hes got the right ingredients? Now he's one of the top in the league and a key part of a good canuck groùp.
Now they're doing it again with Jake. Yet he improves every year.
HB doesn't ever seem to learn, same nonsense over and over - SMBDragon
I was one of those people wondering about Marky as a legit #1 goalie but I’m happy that he’s proven me wrong. I do feel like his upside was a bit more predictable though since he used to have a lot of strong games outside of allowing one early weak goal seemingly every game or 2.
Those are happening far less now.
I still think Jake can be a solid bottom 6 winger, that means I wouldn’t hesitate to package him for something better but it also means that I think it’s be a mistake to just trade him for the sake of it. He just doesn’t have the puck skills or offensive mind to be a legit top 6 player.
Reminds me of Kassian, he always leaves you wanting more so it can be frustrating but he’s still a decent bottom 6 player. That frustration can cloud people’s view, especially during cold streaks. If Josh Leivo has a cold streak, it won’t be nearly as magnified.
Has he though? To me it’s his lack of instincts of any kind that I find most noticeable about his game. He can skate, but for some reason stops the instant he crosses the blue line. He can hit but is rarely in position to do so. He has a big body, but I can’t ever recall him using it to block a shot or stand a guy up. - CubanBuffet

His numbers were trending up the last few seasons but that was with higher TOI as well.
Now competition is even higher for playing minutes he certainly isn't on pace to best last years numbers that's for sure. - LordHumungous
I agree this is part of the problem, he missed an opportunity when the stakes and competition were much lower. If he keeps progressing at a glacier's pace, some other young kid(s) will surpass him in no time

Its a little different to compare goalies with players. Having a world-class goalie coach work with you on a daily basis one-on-one will do wonders. Not to mention Markstrom's work ethic and passion for improving was always visible. He was clearly frustrated when he wasn't playing well, whereas Jake seems indifferent game in, game out

True true. Jake is happy to just be on the team, don’t see him wanting much of anything else. Is LE his mentor....?!

Except Jake has that magnificent speed! That is quite an asset for us. It can have many uses against other teams. Would be a mistake to trade him

And Kassian had better playmaking/vision that Jake does not possess but not the speed or shooting ability of Jake, both guys are missing key attributes.

Roussel should have an impact and one day Ferland might find his game. - VANTEL
They need someone to feed them the puck, a Sven or Gaudette in the bottom 6 can make some plays. Neither will light the world on fire, but I think it would help boost the offensive creativity in the bottom 6 right now. That whole group is relying on broken plays and individuality for most of their offense.

Bieksa is very entertaining. If they create an inside the Canucks player development segment with his humor it would add both color and brightness to the 50 year slogan
