This. Plus of course he's going to look bad with Sutter and Beagle, he needs a center who can make a few plays on the rush.

I'd still like to see him with Gaudette and one of Roussel/Sutter/Sven on the wing.

- Nucker101

I don't know if the center matters anymore. He had that half-break last game and shot from the top of the circle with (I think) Marc Staal being the closest Ranger. He's got a big body and one of the faster players in the league with a step against one of the slowest and he shoots and loops off from the rebound. That doesn't even get into him standing next to Panarin on their second goal

[quote=WhiteLie]Thanks Carol! And good luck this week

To you as well, although I'm not sure how much you'll need it. You have a pretty impressive group there!

Start strong and limp into the playoffs, thats my team in a nutshell every year

Green mentioned wanting 3 scoring lines during this pre-season, but either he's changed his mind on that or is waiting for a roster change(Sven back up for LE?).
- Nucker101

Yup, it's a bit of a cluster here and in Utica. I'm sure something will give at some point.

It's definitely frustrating. I was hoping he'd eventually take that next step into being a Kreider/Zucker type of speed/power winger but if he can pop in 10-15 goals from the bottom and maybe develop into a solid PK'er then he has a place on most teams.

I still remember that time the Canucks ECHL affiliate was in Alaska. If I were a GM I'd make that my AHL team, that would keep the fringe NHL'ers on their toes

Green's gone on record that he believes Sutter can produce offence.

Agreed, I thought Kreider would be exactly who he could aim to be. Plus he's had plenty of opportunity to drive the net and take out all-star goalies

Because of his physical attributes I think he has a place on most teams (particularly playoff bound ones) and could put up 10 goals, but so far I haven't seen any situational awareness that an NHL coach would trust him with PK time, as much as I think he's built for it

I don’t think you’ll ever train his brain to catch up with the rest of him.

He's shown some good defensive instincts at 5v5, plus he has the speed to cover ground and be a threat shorthanded. It might even give him some confidence knowing that he's contributing to the team and has a true role.

There would probably be some growing pains, which is why I wish he was used on the PK in the past when the Canucks had zero playoff hopes.

Has he though? To me it’s his lack of instincts of any kind that I find most noticeable about his game. He can skate, but for some reason stops the instant he crosses the blue line. He can hit but is rarely in position to do so. He has a big body, but I can’t ever recall him using it to block a shot or stand a guy up.

Mostly transition defense, he’s broken up plays that not a lot of forwards on this team can. So that makes me wonder if he could pickup a PK scheme/strategy. He does tend to stand still once the other team establishes possession though, but I think being a PK’er might keep him more mentally engaged.

It’s not something I’d bank on but I wish they experimented with it when the games were meaningless.

I have to disagree. I think he's responding better to coaching, so he's in better position, but I have never seen him anticipate a play happening and disrupt it.

I agree with Cuban, I don't think his brain will ever catch up which is why I am fine with dumping him for whatever his value is now. IMO it will slowly decrease until he's a UFA with a sub-30 point statline for the 5th year in a row

I'd rather just get a draft pick rather than some frustrating reclamation project from another team. There is already a team of them in Utica.
- Marwood

Nice! Then you can whine about the choice of pick too!! STFU!

His numbers were trending up the last few seasons but that was with higher TOI as well.

Now competition is even higher for playing minutes he certainly isn't on pace to best last years numbers that's for sure.

I agree, that's the type of player he is, which is why you move him now while there is still a bit of 1st rounder shine to him.

10-15 tweeners who can PK are available every year in trade of FA.

I thought that as well but early indications certainly aren't there.

But give it a bit of time maybe. I don't think Green has the patience to say 'hey Jake, you have all season to play with Bo to get your shat together' lol

Remember when everyone here was on markstroms case and I said let him develop hes got the right ingredients? Now he's one of the top in the league and a key part of a good canuck groùp.
Now they're doing it again with Jake. Yet he improves every year.
