He's such a liability in his own end, he may have 2 assists on the PP but he also has the assist on the SH goal he gave up, so net 1 great, and as far as generating offense against a heavy checking team he surrenders the puck over and over and over again in his own end.
Im of the group, if you are a dman you need to be able to play defense at least some semblance of it, I'm terrified when we're are on the PP i know we are 1 dumb ass mistake of giving up a SH goal and that was a killer vs the Caps - BetweenTheDots
I agree with your concerns about the negative aspects of his play. But until you can answer those questions I asked then I see no point in trading him. |

They scored 3 with new line combinations.
They gave up 5 including a PP, SH, and EN. Changing 5v5 forward line combinations will probably not effect the players on the ice in those situations.
I am ok with giving the same group a 2nd look. - -Doh-
I have no issue with the 3rd and 4th lines. They're doing fine. None of the combinations within top 2 have worked - no chemistry. Kane's goal against WSH wasn't scored when he was with his defined line. Yet, they are not trying the two combinations that worked - 91-19-88 and 12-17-65. Boggles the mind. |

I still don’t see how Kahun and Nylander are the same.
Kahun was undrafted and salvaged from Europe, is 24 years old and a bottom 6 plug in level talent that has most likely reached his ceiling. Through 9 games he’s currently dead last among regular Penguins forwards(the few they have that aren’t injured) with 2 points.
Nylander was the 8th overall pick, highly touted, just 21 years old and only beginning to realize his potential. Has top end caliber offensive skills. Is a natural fit in the top 6...
These 2 aren’t similar at all, and anyone who would prefer Kahun for the same price needs to reconsider their position. - SimpleJack
Agreed. I like him with Cagguila. It would be nice if they had a center with a little more finish and skill to him then Carpenter. I am not sure if Nylander would fit with Kane. Seems Nylander thrives carrying the puck and gaining confidence. That doesn't really mesh with Kane's game.
I would like to see Kubalik with Kane at some point (if that 3rd line cools off). Someone Kane can feed cross ice one timers too that is better defensively than D-Cat. |

I wrote hopefully ready, if you trade Murphy and Gus is gone, you still have 5 (including KK) players with plenty of NHL experience. I like Murphy too, but in reality, the defense needs to get younger and more agile. - LAHawk
4K is NOT an NHL defense man. |

I know it's unorthodox, but i think this player has a good nose for the game from what I've seen, strong player, good skater, i guess I'd have to see how Kubalik would defend and if he has the ability to turn and skate backwards but he'd be a strong candidate for me |

Hey, some of us are just a tad slow...no shame. So, if you must rewatch all of last season again because you didn’t notice the improvements after the coaching change the first time around like most people plz be my guest. - SimpleJack
Should I start after his 3-11-2 start...or after the 20 games in a row they gave up the first goal?
When did the turnaround begin exactly...since i am a tad slow on his amazing tactics |

I agree with you that Nylander is the type that needs the puck, why I think he does not mesh with Toews and Kane. Does Kubalik play center? If so I would give Kubalik, Saad, Nylander, or maybe Nylander with ADB and Strome, with Dach between Saad and Kubalik?

I'd love a Saad Dach Kubalik line for a few games to see how Dach looks.
I like when Kane has a legit shooter on his line. He is so much more dangerous when the opposing team has to respect the cross ice pass for a one timer. Gives him a bit more space to operate imo.
I also want to see Kubalik with someone who can distribute the puck to him. Maybe that is Dach. He can score goals down low but I want to see him ripping more one timers.
If Kubalik could work on his first two strides a bit, similar to what Dcat did. He will be a monster. He isn't a bad skater but I have noticed he doesn't really have an explosive first stride. Dude finishes checks too. Love his game. |

Allow me to suggest these lines(for the 20th time...cuz that’s how much I like them):
Caggiula-Toews/Dach-Kane
Saad-Toews/Dach-Kubalik
DeBrincat-Strome-Nylander
Shaw-Kampf-Carpenter
C’mon everyone just admit those lines are perfect and give me some props. Maybe a “this” or 2 perhaps... |

Not a clue... if Nylander keeps up his level of play we may never see Mr. Perlini again (barring injury). |

I literally JUST posted what he’s done well. Can you read? The teams effort and level of play drastically improved after he took over last season and has improved game to game this season despite all the roster changes. The head coach deserves credit whenever this happens to a team, in any team sport. He almost got them to the playoffs last season after the disastrous start under Q. - SimpleJack
It doesn't matter what positive decision or outcome you or anyone else can list, he (and 1 or 2 others) is unable to view it as a positive. There are plenty of posts that are supportive of JC if he cared to allow such things in. He doesn't. He's not here for the give and take of a hockey discussion; he's here to tell everyone how smart he is and how dumb they are to not realize JC is the most unqualified coach in the world, at any level. |

Now that they have seen Kubalik and Nylander Stan will dump Perlini just like Morin, Pirri, Hayes, McNeil, first chance he gets. |

I could be wrong, but I think it was more about Kubalik not wanting to sign with LA. |

I wasn't saying that they are the same player. More that I believe that they would produce the same this year. I'm well aware of the pedigree difference, and I can see that Nylander has more upside. I just thought that Kahun played a decent 200' game and made plays/produced points. I get that it is the only real way to compare players, but we don't know what Kahun would be producing on the Hawks right now. He started out last year pretty hot (playing top line with ADB and Toews) and then cooled off.
Again, I have nothing against Nylander as a player, and I'm glad that we have him now. I'm looking at it more from the perspective of what we had at the time and all the other moves that were made.
