Trading Gus is a bad idea
Our Dcore accounts for very little offense/shots from the point/PP production as is....now you wanna trade away the only guy we have that helps us in those areas??
He’s making chump change and is fine on the 3rd pairing if the other 5 guys all do their jobs. Unless Boqvist is ready to take on that role for certain then I’d keep Gus, at least for now. We need him.

Except who at the trade deadline would be looking to add wants a 60 point defenseman that can't play defense, and will leave at the end of the year, and give back a viable asset (high draft choice or prospect)? - LAHawk
There are many arguments to be made why Gus can or cannot be traded for something of value. You have some valid points but there are also valid points that he does have trade value. Unless of course the pretext to this discussion is to further the "Bowman is incompetent" narrative. |

Gus has value, more value to the Hawks than anyone else unfortunately. Again depends on the Hawks position, if they are out of it, I can see Murphy and others bringing a nice return at the TDL. - LAHawk
They've been trying accumulate real NHL defensemen, why would they trade one in his prime and three years left on a cheap deal? |

Nobody really knows this for sure. There could be a number of teams out there that could use a low cost, offensive defenseman and do exactly what we are starting to do with him. Shelter his 5v5 and play him on the PP. As noted by others, injuries always happen as well. |

Because you have Mitchell (hopefully), Bovquist, and maybe Beaudin ready next year.

True, but there will be other options, Mike Green becomes a UFA after this year, he can run a power play, and would trust him way more than Gus. I think the big haul at the trade deadline for the Hawks would come (depending on where the club is at) from trading either Crawford or Lehner at the trade deadline, especially if a #1 goaltender is injured. - LAHawk
I was curious so I checked. CC still has a modified NTC/NMC the final year of his contract.

Saad, Crawford....maybe even Dehaan can be good trade chips at the TDL this year.
Keith, if he wants to leave, could be a good chip as well. - PatShart
Why are we looking to the TDL at this point in the season?
Lots of problems ahead, but only 6 games in - let's see if this team will even be a seller on February 28. |

It will be a wonderful day for me the day they trade him,
You have players who are part of the solution
Meh players
Players who are part of the problem, Gus falls in this category |

I know, but thought that if he is clearly not #1, and probably not going to be resigned at the end of the year, he would be willing to go to a cup contender (Vegas, Toronto sure could use a NHL backup)

Three rookies on the blue line? That's bold. |

Looks like the same line up tonight except for Lehner in goal |

Me too, I am just saying i don't think the return is going to be a #1 draft choice.

I wrote hopefully ready, if you trade Murphy and Gus is gone, you still have 5 (including KK) players with plenty of NHL experience. I like Murphy too, but in reality, the defense needs to get younger and more agile.

Because with this coach, lack of team structure, inability to match lines in this division....they arent going anywhere
They'll be sellers...and Marc Crawford will be running the ship by seasons end |

Not at all, I think it is way too soon to evaluate JC, however the Hawks have a choice, become Detroit and be a bubble team for the next decade, or start cleaning house as much as possible and let the young guys prove they do or do not belong.

Definitely good idea to keep trying to force what is non-existent chemistry on line 1 and again saddle our biggest offensive threat with mentoring a "raw" rookie and covering for Strome's issues...sigh |

The argument can be made that they are already "Detroit". They've also change over a large portion of their roster already. I'm guessing you are talking about turning over more of the "core" members, but they are in complete control of their future right now with the way their contracts are structured.
Murphy is 24 right now and has show to be one of our best defensive D-men. I personally don't want to see him moved anytime soon. |

Mitchell and Bovquist who are arguably the closest are both right handed, Murphy is right handed. Matta and DaHaan that are signed for the same term as Murphy are left handed. Hopefully in 2 years Beaudin, Gilbert?, Vlasic will be ready (Vlasic next year again in college, signs plays in Rockford one year and hopefully is ready the year Matta's and DaHaan's contract is up.
