It's a failure by the GM and Coach not to move Gus during the off season

The GM - in knowing they wont resign him and his offensive value was never higher

The Coach- who should have been seeing him every day in practice, in games, in video sessions that this guy takes long shifts, has no idea when to get off the ice, leaves his partners out to dry, refuses to play any semblance of defence

Q saw this and wouldn't play him...but then again, it was because he hated young players

But JC plays him 25min a game thinking he is a true top Dman....which he isn't and now its biting them, and his value is nothing.

Be lucky to get a late round pick for him

If the Hawks are looking to trade him I'd bet they can get alot at the trade deadline. An offenssive defenseman who can run a powerplay may be very valuable to the right team

I don't disagree with what you have to say, but my question is who do they replace? Who do you remove from this roster if you're adding one or more of those guys? Perlini is the obvious first guy that comes to mind for the forwards, but you're not gonna drop him and bring up anyone of those guys just to have the ride the pine as well. If Dach doesn't stick he would be another, but again who do you take out of the lineup to give them a shot? Koekkoek is the first guy you would look to change on the backend but I think they like him and you're not gonna drop him just to call up one of those guys and not let them play. The interesting one would be Gus, but I don't see them pulling the plug on that just yet.

Very good question. I was thinking the same thing after I posted that list. As you alluded to, there really are no openings at this time.

If and when there are, those I mentioned would be the farmhands I would recommend for call up depending on what type of player is needed.

i think they would get bupkis at the trading deadline for him. Looking at all the teams, I see the Oilers and Detroit (not making the playoffs) maybe the Jets that Gusto would replace a defenseman on PP1.

You could be right but history has shown GMs manke stupid acquistions at the TDL. A team going into the playoffs with a sub par powerplay or with an injury(s) may look at Gus and over pay.

Yep, time to go. He's lost. Put Pagano in charge for the rest of the year. Nagy's offense has been trending down since the middle of last season. I get that Mitch is a large part of the problem, but he's got a great defense that he should be supporting with the offense. Instead he wants to be the smart guy with so many gadgets that he has no base offense.
- mohel

Problems extend beyond Nagy...Pace is a clown show...this is the guy that thought mike glennon and then Mitch was the answer. Imagine where this team would be had they taken Watson instead of the kid Ohio State said they would have play safety. Trubisky has had 30 starts now he is what he is...and that's a bust. He can't look off his receivers and he can't throw over 10 yards. How bout Kevin White (bust) shaheen (bust) miller (?) Floyd (?) in several of these picks Pace gave up additional picks to move up and get these guys. He also signed Leno and Massie to huge deals (yikes)...and then you have a coach that refuses to run the ball. Bears will be lucky to win 7 games. Need to trade for Foles. Because do you really want Mariotta, Dalton or one of those bums as a UFA.

Meanwhile would't mind seeing the Saad Shaw Kane line reunited...

What team's power play is he successfully running right now?

Vegas is in the top tier in both PP and PK%, maybe Shaw should watch this game, sure can't afford any more stupid penalties from him.
- LAHawk

Doesn't matter they will just call it on someone else, they can call crosschecking, holding, slashing, to many men and interference pretty much any time they want, can't play in fear, pk needs to start producing

True, but there will be other options, Mike Green becomes a UFA after this year, he can run a power play, and would trust him way more than Gus. I think the big haul at the trade deadline for the Hawks would come (depending on where the club is at) from trading either Crawford or Lehner at the trade deadline, especially if a #1 goaltender is injured.

I want to see some give and go and rotation on the PP. Saad and Shaw 2nd unit almost had a PP goal to bad Shaw couldn't get his stick in position

Saad, Crawford....maybe even Dehaan can be good trade chips at the TDL this year.

Keith, if he wants to leave, could be a good chip as well.

He was good on the powerplay last season, I'd be inclined to give him a few games before I'd write him off completely.

I'm no Gus fan, his defense is atrocious and doesn't compensate for the offense he brings. But as a 3rd pairing powerplay guy I'd bet there's some dumb GM out there willing to over pay.

They got a 1st and a prospect for Ryan Hartman. Is he more valuable than Gus?

BTW, Hartman is on his what - 4th team now? Based on just that you would think that Gus would get you at least a 1st. Regardless, GUS is not on the Hawks next year, so whatever you get is gravy - unless he completely changes his game around

Hartman had a contract, and was young. Gus is in his prime, still hasn't learned how to play his position, and is a pure rental. My guess is whoever he signs with next year, he doesn't get anywhere close to what his offensive statistics would command.

The only trade for a defenseman at the trade deadline that brought anything higher than a middle round draft pick was Buffalo sending San Jose or St. Louis first round pick whichever was lower for Brandon Montour, who is a 24 year old defenseman who already had a couple of years playing top 4 for Anaheim.

Hartman had also never done anything nearly as cool as a 60 defenseman. And the lack of a contract could be a benefit.

Perhaps we'll find out at the TDL.

Nope, not an option. Everything right now sucks and has no value. We might as well just stop watching.

Except who at the trade deadline would be looking to add wants a 60 point defenseman that can't play defense, and will leave at the end of the year, and give back a viable asset (high draft choice or prospect)?

Well unforunately Stan can't trade with himself. Also Kimmo was still better defensively than Gus is.

Someone who loses a defenseman to injury. Why in God's name would a contender give up a #1+ for Ryan Hartman?

Gus has value, more value to the Hawks than anyone else unfortunately. Again depends on the Hawks position, if they are out of it, I can see Murphy and others bringing a nice return at the TDL.

Kimmo was 87 years old and hadn't played all year because of blood clots. Still got two #2's.
