They don’t need to teach Giroux anything. They to come up to give us 3rd and 4th lines that have enough skill to put a puck in the net once in a while. This way, when the top 2 lines are having trouble finishing, the team still has a chance to win. - BiggE
None of these kids coming up are going to make or break anything with this team right now. The scoring issue is team wide at the moment, and I'd be surprised if it continues for a long period of time. |

We are massively out shooting the opposition, like a +50 differential. We are controlling most of the play through the games. I feel the goals will come as we settle into a completely new system across the board. At about 25 games I feel we will have a sense of the teams identity. And my fantasy GM thoughts are saying when (if?) Patrick comes back he’ll solidify the 3rd line, hopefully get Farabee in the game, and trade a D or two for picks.

I could care less about shot total or zone time. Teams are more than happy to keep the flyers to the outside, the flyers are more than happy to oblige and take their pot shots all game. This has been going on for a long time |

I’m glad the Flyers didn’t have this attitude in the mid 80s. It would have been sad to not have Tocchet, Zezel and Smith in the lineup in 84-85. Gee, how did they ever survive without that valuable AHL time?
AHL time, especially for forwards, is often overrated. - BiggE
Especially in today’s NHL....it’s a very young league.

Daily reminder that we are no closer to being a legit contender despite spending to the cap, and that a former Flyer great Ron Hextall is out of a job because a corporate suit got nervous looking at the bottom line of the plan he signed up for. |

I fully agree. But maybe I’m just being optimistic but I feel once they “settle in” to the new systems the offense will change. |

Just a thought. I’d love to see league do away with guaranteed contracts. Nhl only league with them. That’s how you’ll get accountability with vets. I know this would create a lockout but do we really care? Sooooo tired of seeing vets and ufa sign deals worth more then there worth and do squat. Thoughts?🤔 |

Chuck Fletcher has never built a team that either won its division or made it out of the 2nd round of the playoffs. Why should we have any confidence that he can build a Cup winner?
Bob Clarke takes a lot of crap around here, but he built teams that won divisions, a President’s trophy, went to the conference finals 7 times and the Cup finals twice.
Paul Holmgren takes a lot of crap around here but he took a team that finished dead last and turned it into a conference finalist the next season. He also built a team that reached the finals.
Fletcher hasn’t done squat here other than use up all our available cap space. He didn’t accomplish all that much in Minnesota. Why should I have any confidence in him? |

This.
yes we are massively outshooting the opposition, but the shot quality leaves a lot to be desired. This team is not getting to the net or "inside" as AV calls it.
We know this is not what AV wants. Yes he wants shots but as we saw in the Behind The Glass series, he wants these guys to get in to the slot, around the crease, to the net and get those dirty goals.
Its maddening every single game year in and year out watching this collection of players play a perimeter game. Some people blamed Hak saying that was what he wanted them to do. I would say that theory has been blown out of the water by watching what we know AV wants, and seeing what is actually happening.
Its the players.

It’s not hard to understand. This team lacks talented depth. When you are dressing four 4th liners and 5th guy who has no business being in the NHL, you pretty much need your other forwards, your D and your goalie to be pretty close to perfect in order to win games.
The Flyers need to get some of their skilled prospects into the lineup now. FFS, they’re not made of paper mache. I don’t want to hear about the horrible risk of “rushing” these kids, it’s hogwash.
In 84-85, Zezel, Tocchet and Smith did fine without AHL time; same for Pelle Eklund in 86-87. Renberg jumped right in without AHL time, Gagne and Williams too. And more recently, Couturier and Konecny did just fine without it as well.
Stop giving away points that you cannot afford to give away and get Farabee and at least one of Frost or Rubtsov into the lineup now. - BiggE
Now provide the 100sof examples of players who didn’t do fine. Always exceptions to the rule
Blaming the 4th liners is old and weak. They are not the reasons they are losing. |

Forcing Stewart into yesterday’s lineup when he had a whole squad of good young players to choose from in Allentown, was an extremely poor decision by Fletcher. He should feel embarrassed this morning. |

The blame lies with management handing out the contracts in the first place. |

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Seriously though, how much can he really do? He is handcuffed by big contracts, so the core transition is going to be by evolution, not revolution ( unless he can fleece someone into taking some).
It's going to be a slow process to infuse young players into the lineup that may be able to play today's game of speed and finesse ( I know....broken record by me). So, gang, just grin and bear it for awhile. Just miss the playoffs or just squeak in.
Just my opinion....what is yours? - DaveofYork
