Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Seriously though, how much can he really do? He is handcuffed by big contracts, so the core transition is going to be by evolution, not revolution ( unless he can fleece someone into taking some).
It's going to be a slow process to infuse young players into the lineup that may be able to play today's game of speed and finesse ( I know....broken record by me). So, gang, just grin and bear it for awhile. Just miss the playoffs or just squeak in.
Just my opinion....what is yours?

I have watched this same game for the last 5 years.

I would rather watch rubtsov, nak, Morin, Myers, frost, Farabee lose than watch pitlick, Stewart, Hagg, Braun, etc lose.

I am having an internal debate about whether the sixers deserve my attention more than the Flyers. It’s all because I have hated with a burning passion the roster the management has iced over what I believe should be on the ice. Since 2014/15 this team has wasted time that should have been spent acclimating young players to the nhl instead of wasting time playing veterans who can’t find jobs after their flyers contract is up.

The nhl is a developmental league. Some things can only be learned playing in the nhl and you have to put a player on the ice to find out if the can play.

Is this team worth our time?
Is it fun to watch?

Ghost needs to sit for awhile. He was god awful tonight again. Simple passes, couldn’t even take a pass. Basic hockey is a struggle
- Buzzo

Ghost? Really?

Did you watch Matt Niskanen? Sanheim? Provorov? They were all pretty bad.

Ghost/Hagg were the best pair.

Agree about watching the young players. Interesting to see who develops how. With the vets, what you see is what you get, sad to say

This!!!

Bias for action. He made moves for the sake of making moves, so all could see he answered the call. Signing and actually playing an aging Stewart over any kid is indefensible.

The Sixers are definitely worth watching more than the Flyers at this time and I say that as a hardcore hockey fan/casual basketball fan.

New coaches, new players, new system, trip to Europe and then western Canada.

Game sucked last night, but it's hard to overreact when they've had anything but a normal start to the season travel wise and personnel wise.

Also for entertainment purposes, I get why people want the young kids up here, but they aren't exactly setting the world on fire down in the AHL either.

Problem is Stewart and the signed vets had nothing to do with that first goal. What provorov did should just about never happen to your #1 dman/top pair. All kinds of time and space with the puck in your own end and you manage to get stripped. I can’t blame the coaching for that. Why are the so many airhead moments with these players?

Yup
I get the Hayes signing, but the Braun trade was wholly unnecessary and a waste of cap space. They would have been perfectly fine going into the season with a D of:

Provorov-Ghost
Sanheim-Niskanen
Hagg/Morin-Myers

And, at the very least, Farabee should be in the lineup instead of a plug like Stewart (yeah he fought, whoop de (frank)ing do). And, with Patrick out, either Frost or Rubtsov should be in the lineup as well.

G-Coots-TK
Lindblom-Hayes-Jake
JVR-Frost/Rubtsov-Farabee
Twarynski-Laughton-Raffl/Pitlick

Fletcher is a vanilla GM with a track record of building solid teams, but not teams that can contend for the Cup.

Frost, farabee, and rubstov are basically a ppg. I think frost and rubstov could use the time down there. I don’t think farabee has any business being down there. He’s far more impressive than konecny when he stuck

If this poop continues on in the next 5 games or so, I have no problem with calling some of the kids who are ready up. But if our problem is everyone is having a hard time finding the back of the net, one or two kids from the AHL aren't gonna change that much.

Say what?
Farabee, last 4 games, 3 goals and an assist
Frost has 4 points in his last 2 games, generated a ton of shots last night and was the only Phantom to score in the shootout.
Rubtsov has been their best forward all season and was leading the team in scoring going into last nights game and Myers has been their best Dman and is playing on the top pair.

Try again

Cool, call them up then. Maybe they can teach Giroux and everyone else how to score, since no one else has yet.

Frost needs substantial time down there I think. Rubstov needs to show he can maintain this level of play while staying healthy. If so get him here by Xmas. Farabee should have never donned purple

They don’t need to teach Giroux anything. They to come up to give us 3rd and 4th lines that have enough skill to put a puck in the net once in a while. This way, when the top 2 lines are having trouble finishing, the team still has a chance to win.

We are massively out shooting the opposition, like a +50 differential. We are controlling most of the play through the games. I feel the goals will come as we settle into a completely new system across the board. At about 25 games I feel we will have a sense of the teams identity. And my fantasy GM thoughts are saying when (if?) Patrick comes back he’ll solidify the 3rd line, hopefully get Farabee in the game, and trade a D or two for picks.

I’m glad the Flyers didn’t have this attitude in the mid 80s. It would have been sad to not have Tocchet, Zezel and Smith in the lineup in 84-85. Gee, how did they ever survive without that valuable AHL time?

AHL time, especially for forwards, is often overrated.

Exactly....in today’s NHL you need to draft well and be able to use your high picks in the NHL....you have to have accountability if your a vet, and I still don’t see that. That being said the last two games they have deserved a better fate. But in the end it’s about winning and being able to score goals, and they have some pretty high end scoring stashed in the AHL.
