They’re using everyone pretty evenly in O zone starts

The leader in Ozone starts is Miller with 24

Ristolainen has 19, McCabe has 20, same with Dahlin.

I was looking at percentages, not totals, but if you're talking totals then I assume he's leading the sabres in d zone starts because he's starting 60% of his time there

I don’t see the relevance in using % when I’m talking about his point totals and offense

He’s getting plenty of o zone work once again.

I just want a solid argument for what he is doing good that results in a net positive. Its really hard for me to come up with something besides eating hard minutes and not getting totally slaughtered.

Hes getting d zone starts and hard matchups, while having about a break even scoring chance %. I'm willing to listen to your big minute guy breaking slightly under even and your depth winning you games as a viable strategy.

Thats the best i can come up with.

Erik Karlsson is a -9 with 6 points (assists) in 7 games. My argument for Risto is that we're not paying him $11.5m to do... whatever that is

I still think Risto is miscast in a defensive role, and I'd welcome a move that nets us a RW

Bottom line is once again he’s trending towards being a negative impact player and yet they’re playing him insanely high minutes.

How did Risto and McCabe end up with a +1 each? If they were on the ice for all goals against and none for, wouldn’t that be impossible?

Why does the replay show Scandella and Jokiharju on the ice for the first SJ goal?

I must live in an alternate universe.

What’s obvious to me, is that some people here are bent on hating Risto. Bent to the point where they make things up to make him look worse. Bent to the point where they share links to twitter replays showing Risto and Erod playing strong defense and blame them both for a goal that Anaheim made an outstanding play to score. Bent to the point that being on the ice for a goal against automatically means Risto made an outrageous mistake. Bent to the point where they criticize him for icing calls resulting from shooting the puck down at an empty net as instructed to do by the coaching staff.

Goals against happen. Sometimes no one is at fault, it’s just a damn good play by the opponents. When you play more than the other players, chances are that you’ll be on the ice for more goals against.

We have a coaching staff that analyzes everything, sees every play, sees every practice and are making decisions to result in the team’s best interest to win games. They see everything, and still maintain that Risto is the best defenseman on the roster to play the primary role and to be on the ice in those defensive situations.

You guys need to get over yourselves. You just look ridiculous at this point. Risto has made a few bad plays but overall is having a very good season.

Can anyone articulate an argument that Ristolainen or McCabe has been better than Jokiharju or Scandella?

If not, why aren’t the minutes closer between the pairs

I think he's doing pretty well considering what they're asking him to do. You're always going to get bonehead plays from Risto, but I think he's been better defensively.

Like I said, I'd be fine if they moved him for a forward

Regardless of trade, they need to give 10/6/33 more playing time.

I’m not gonna delve into Dahlin here, but he should be getting more too.

It should be close to 20 min across the board

Q had Der Kaiser Schultzie's boy Pysyk playing RW on third line the last two games. He didn't do too bad as a defensive minded winger, lol. I think maybe Q is/was sending a message to the two forwards scratched in favor of Pysyk. Still, very strange to see.

Mike schoop is that you? Dahlin hasn’t played great defensively and yet we should reward him with more ice time?
