If you’re going to make up explanations for UFO sightings, then at least make it plausible. That was no drone, lol.. they chased it in fighter jets. - Arctic_AARDVARK
It's an advanced military drone. Or the footage itself is some creative filmmaking. It's more plausible than ships travelling at the speed of light. That requires the explanation. |

Advanced military drone (tech) the got from the fücking aliens!!!
Tbh, I’ve seen some crazy stuff in the sky before. It’s probably why I think this is a big deal. You could be right but the guy was on JRE for like 3 hours talking about it. These incident happen all the time. |

I mean, you’re welcome to think that, but a good amount of people would disagree with you, including myself. - RafiDRW
I don't need people to agree with me. You know how much more this place would suck if everyone agreed with each other? There's already a circle of people that do nothing but agree with each other all the time, but I digress.
Look, under normal circumstances, the LA Kings would still be a contender and would never dream of trading arguably the best D in the NHL. Luckily, they suck and Drew Doughty is the type of guy that wants to still play meaningful hockey and win Cups. His time in LA is coming to a close if that's true.
Is he 29 years old getting paid 11 AAV? Absolutely. But how long do elite level defenders last in the NHL? I'd argue a pretty long ass time. How long did Lidstrom last? How long did Niedermayer last? How old was Giordano last year when he won the Norris?
Usually, I'd be completely against the Leafs grabbing a guy 30+ with a long contract and a big cap hit but Doughty is one of the rare exceptions to that rule. The odds of him performing are higher than him just becoming Phaneuf. He's a completely different tier of defenseman and he's got a lot of hockey still to play.
Additionally, the Leafs don't have many other options at this point. They don't have anybody in the system who can be or will be that good. The odds of signing one are pretty low, especially if Pietrangelo re-signs. At this point, they have to make a trade and if they don't, it'll just be that much harder to beat Tampa Bay every year. They got a window of opportunity. The time is now to make a move to make it as wide as possible. |

He was -34 last year with 45 points and is 29 years old making $11 million
by comparison Rielly is 25 years makes $5 million was +24, scored 72 points
Rielly was only 5th in norris trophy voting. How many d-men were better than Doughty, that weren't in the fop five?
Are you saying he's a top d-man now at $11 million with 8 years left at age 29? He earned the money on this contract by being the best player on LA for 2 cups. He's not that player any more - winsix
The LA Kings are garbage. Like tire fire garbage. His numbers are obviously going to look bad because it's just a horrible team and a bad situation. But that bad situation works to our advantage. A) it makes him available when he would otherwise never be available and B) it makes him cost less to acquire. That's to the Leafs benefit.
Yeah, Rielly gets 5 million and has had one really good season but how many Cups does he have? Norris Trophies? 0. By the same age, Doughty had won everything there was to win. He's a higher level player. He's not just going to drop off the face of the Earth at 30. He just need to be on a team that isn't complete garbage.
Anybody pointing to his age should want Tavares traded. He's signed for the same money and for just as long. Is Tavares finished after this year too? Historically, goal scoring drops off at 30 but not guys like Doughty and there's plenty of examples of it. Lidstrom, Chara, Niedermayer, Pronger, Giordano etc. all won Norris Trophies and/or Cups well into their 30s.
If Rielly scored 72 points with Hainsey as his partner, just imagine how many he could get with Doughty beside him. Not to mention the added defensive qualities. It's night and day.
If the Leafs had Doughty at 8 million and Rielly at 8 million, would it really be that bad? Because 11 + 5 = 16 and for the next 3 years that's what it would cost to have them as our top pairing D. And 16 million for two of the best 10 D in the world isn't that bad of a price to pay.
The cap goes up an average of 2 million a year. Four or five years from now, paying 11 AAV for Doughty just isn't all that bad anymore. Between 30-35, it's unlikely that his play drops off that much and considering the Leafs window is 5 years based on what everybody else is signed for, that's the time to make the move and go for it. |

Would totally change the team for the better. - aminnes
100% make the Leafs better in every way. Doughty does it all. He scores, he skates, he plays the PP, plays the PK, shuts down top players, he has Cup winning experience and he's right in the middle of his prime.
He will be on the next team Canada. - aminnes
100% accurate. Probably top pairing. Maybe with Rielly beside him too.
And then, if you told me that the Leafs could have Team Canada's top pairing for 16 AAV, I'd jump for joy and laugh hysterically at anyone who thought that'd be a bad idea.
Maybe LA could eat a bit of salary. It's a stretch but... - aminnes
Maybe 1 million but I doubt it. If there's more than 1 team involved, they probably wouldn't. Then again, add another prospect or draft pick and maybe they do. Either way, it wouldn't be that big of an issue. They could still fit him as long as they moved a salary like Nylander and Ceci. |
