5-on-5 On-ice Goals for and against
Khaira = 0 to 4
Granlund = 1 to 3
Sheahan = 0 to 3
Nygard = 0 to 3
Russell = 0 to 2
Chiasson = 1 to 1
Archibald = 0 to 3
Haas = 1 to 2
Jurco = 4 to 1 (3 and 1 from Nuge's line)
Cave = 0 to 2

While it's true that the 0s are unlikely to continue, it's unreasonable to expect too much of a spike and the goals against are only likely to slow down a little. Further, the expected goal rates don't exactly paint the picture of a bottom-6 that's getting to the hard areas. I think they ought to make a trade or two to add a bit of proven bottom-6 scoring before the top-6 cools off.

Something like Russell for Helm or Perreault, Gagner and a pick for Pageau and Puljujarvi for Wood and a pick.

Why trade Russell? Ever since they moved him to the proper side, he's been a better player, sure he has limitations, but if you were to trade him away without a veteran D man in return (or coming from another deal) they'd be shorthanded on the left side. Would you want to go into meaningful games with basically half of your D corps being rookies? I wouldn't. If an opportunity comes for them to move him in the summer while bringing in another Defenceman, sure. At this stage I think he's more valuable than trading him for bottom six help.

If they do need to change things in the bottom six why not just do it internally later on in the year? Yamomoto is off to a good start, wouldn't he deserve a call up, before making a trade? To me that is the more cap friendly option. The same could be said for Benson and Marody.

My point in moving Russell is that LD is a position of strength for this team and the cap dollars currently committed to him would be better put to use on a useful forward for the bottom-6. What I'm advocating for is what I see as an opportunity to upgrade our bottom-6 without downgrading on the backend.

He absolutely has looked like a better player when slotted correctly, but that doesn't say to me that his contributions couldn't quite easily be replaced. Either of Lagesson or Jones could step in on that 3rd pairing and offer similar overall results (perhaps better) while also adding an element that the bottom pair is lacking (board battles and skating/puck-moving respectively).

The reason I advocate for this now is that there's a need NOW where there may not be one in the offseason. Winnipeg has a forward corps capable of competing but need to reinforce their backend without crippling their strength. It would depend on how they felt about Perreault, but I think the deal could work out for both teams.

I'd want Perreault AND upgrades from the farm team to break into the lineup. Perreault has a track record of scoring from the bottom-6, driving transition play, producing on 2nd PP units and winning faceoffs. I want someone like him already in the bottom-6 when guys like Benson and Yamamoto arrive so they don't HAVE to do it on their own. Particularly I want an established C so they don't have to drag some anchor along.

Drai- McDavid- Kassian
Neal- Nuge- Chiasson
Benson- Perreault- Yamo
Ny/JJ- Sheahan- Russ/Arch

Yamo- Perreault- Benson w/ Bear- Nurse is a 2nd PP unit that might actually score while still having a solid D corps (especially when Larsson returns).

We were pretty outplayed outside of a few spurts of goodness in the third. We didn’t play terribly but we we had no coordination it seemed. AA is still snake bitten and Mantha was shut down by EDM pretty good. Good game by Koskinen and the Oilers. #FireBlashill

I thought the Wings played quite well, much better than I expected.

Mantha didn’t impress me at all.

Athanasiou looked damn good.

We did alright. We played with more structure than we have lately. Helped a bit. Kept McDavid off the board, which was a nice accomplishment. Bernier stole the show for us.

Mantha was doing the right things but was definitely not his dominant self, but you guys contained him very well, like I said earlier.

Would've preferred Granlund go down, but alright.

Saw it on another side, but I wonder if Fiala could be had for cheap given his struggles, recent scratching and the GM that traded for him no longer being around. Puljujarvi and Manning (for cap balancing) would be where I start.

Sure. But it’ll cost you either RNH or Skinner.

Since my last Lavoie update, he has 3G and 1A in 3 games to accompany his 6, 9 and 14(!!!) shots in each game. This leaves his running totals through October at 9G 9A 18P and 61 shots (6.77 shots/game) through 9 games.

I agree, you are in the drivers seat... let's talk some missing key trades, who is available from your roster?

One of either Haula or Teravainen.
