😂

Have to say I'm not sure of the exact rules. But a player that goes on LTIR has to be on for 10 games minimum - no relief for bonuses, but any salary for the season can be applied as far as I am aware. Probably a question for Frenchie

If you can't include bonuses...probably doesn't leave much to gain if it's 1 of our big dogs anyways.

If Mikheyev and Moore keep it up they could trade a more expensive winger to free up cap space.

yup.

especially if they think they can bring in another khl player next year.

Never a fan, but sad really, says something about the lousy pension plan at the NHL , I think Brashear played over 1000 games.

He made $16,262,041 in career earnings.

Even if you subtract half of that for taxes and agents, etc., he's still squandered a fortune.

How the hell does that happen so often? Modano gambled a fortune away. It's crazy.

There are performance bonuses and signing bonuses. From what I've seen on a quick google search, signing bonus is part of the salary. this is a breakdown of the big three. (please don't tell me that the signing bonus number for Mitch wasn't part of wanting to have the biggest d!ck on the team!)

Matthews signing $15.2M salary $700K total Salary $15.9M
Tavares signing $15.25M salary $650K total Salary $15.9M
Marner signing $15.3M salary $700K total Salary $16.0M

Agree, but that's why responsible companies (unlike the NHL) set up pensions. Say 4% with a matching 4% would have given him money to live on that he couldn't have squandered or snorted.

Injuries upon injuries, opiod addictions as a result. Or just young and rich and not necessarily educated on how to keep the money by the time you're out of the league.

I wish. Now my only association with them is when I visit the drive-thru.

Modano did not gamble a fortune away.

He lost about $4 million on a bad investments.

The NHL (and NHLPA) do have a pension plan.

True Wedgie Story:

A friend is a money manager. One of his clients is a former NHLer - still active in media (everyone here would know his name).

At the start of his career, his agent set the player up with a financial plan - which includes an allowance.

The player (now ex-player) gets X amount a year - and not a franking penny more.

Player agreed to it at the start, still loves the plan, and is happy and financially secure.

He went almost flat broke, and that couldn't be from 4 million, he made 77 in his career. That 4 million was what he had left after he drank, snorted and gambled everything else away.
