Funny he's getting singled out when Jake looked far worse on the PP imo
- hereticpride

The two biggest issues on this team right now is the play of Voracek and Giroux.

last nights game did remind me of too many nights under Hakstol. But the team does have some positives in the form of the young guys. To me this team is a work in progress. They will need some time to see what they have. I do wonder if a coach like AV, who has no affiliation with any of these guys begins to crack the whip. Vorecek and Ghost are two of the most talented players the Flyers have , but games like last night can't be happening if this team is to take the next step.

where would this team be with out Konecny and Provy had they not signed. Konecny has taken his game to a new level, I have liked Lindblom although he had more of a pedestrian outing last night. Cout's has been real solid and the Flyers have gotten some great goaltending thus far. Niskanen has been solid and Braun has been steady, although his gaff last night ended up in the net.....with all the negative comments...I thought I would throw out some positives through 4 games.

Few thoughts about last night’s game. Take them for however you choose.

-I felt like if AV felt like we could tie it up in the dying moments of the third, he used our time out too soon. However, good job Utilizing the prefer players. I don’t agree with where they were positioned but getting Giroux, Voracek, JvR, Couturier, Konency and Provorov on the ice was the right call and they possessed the puck well.

-Good got AV for leaning heavily on Provorov. We had a 4-on-3 PP and chose Provorov, just like he chose Provorov at the end of the game to try and tie it up. While I think Niskanen has been our most sound defensive defender, Provorov has been head and shoulders our best defenseman all around this season. He’s eating the minutes, he’s been aggressive with his wrister in the offensive zone. He takes heat a 22 year old doesn’t deserve.

-Love or hate my views, I stand by them. We all have Kevin Hayes penciled in as our second line center, getting used on the second PP unit while killing penalties. Hayes is getting first line time with first unit PP time. I think he’s being asked to play above his head. Last summer two high profile UFA centers walked away with a huge payday. Matt Duchene and Kevin Hayes. Duchene has 9 points in 5 games. Hayes hasn’t been bad, he’s been good but he’s also doing things you can get from a third or fourth line center. At some point a 7.14 million dollar player has to put up the points to go along with that defensive play. You guys can say it’s only been 4 games but what happens after ten and he only has three points?

-Voracek....While JvR hasn’t put up the points, at least we’re seeing the hard work Voracek isn’t giving.

They need to shake things up, they were hot garbage last night. While I don’t agree with Stewart signing, I doubt they’re waiving him today or tomorrow, so with that in mind, here’s what I’d do for tonight:

G-Coots-TK
Lindblom-Hayes-Jake
JVR-Laughton-Raffl
Twar-Bunny-Pitlick

Provy-Ghost/Braun*
Sanheim-Niskanen
Morin-Ghost/Braun**

*Ghost at ES, Braun for D zone draws and PK

**This pairing would get limited, sheltered minutes

I don’t think the above is a long term solution. Hopefully Patrick comes back soon, Twar and Bunny are demoted and Farabee comes up. Next I’d be shopping Hagg to make room for Myers. This will, I hope, lead to:

G-Coots-TK
Lindblom-Hayes-Jake
JVR-Patrick-Farabee
Raffl-Laughton-Pitlick

Provy-Niskanen
Sanheim-Myers/Braun*
Ghost-Braun/Myers**

*Braun would see some ES shifts for D zone draws and would replace Myers for PK and when protecting leads late in periods/games

**Myers gets some O zone draws with Ghost

Hey boys, just looking for some insight...

I have 3 Philly players in my pool, giroux, Voracek and Konecny. Konecny seems to be playing well for me, but giroux and Voracek haven’t done much. Are they snake bitten or not doing a whole lot?

There are def positives, and you mention some. I want to see how the team reacts after getting back off the road and into some semblance of a normal schedule and rhythm. It's nice for team bonding time and all, but they've got to be road weary.

Perspective---Perspective! Who needs Perspective?

Not a whole lot of positives to take from last nights game but if anyone thought this season was going to go without bad games is kidding themselves.

Sure, there are things that need to be corrected and addressed. Personally I think tonight's game will be a better barometer of where this team is at. If there is a lackluster effort tonight then AV has some serious azz kicking to do. If they lose but play a strong game then I think they will be fine. If they get their doors blown off then I could see this snowballing.
As much as I like Coots with TK and Lindblom I think he would be better suited with Giroux and TK on the top line.
Hayes with Jake and Lindblom
Ghost needs a sports psychologist and may need to get the guys number who Hart works with.

They just lost one away game even if I agree with your core point
We are overpaying average players and there are too many players making more than
Couts. But don't agree on your solution .Frost and Farabee and even Konecny are no Top line player s now even if they are highly talented at offensive play
Plus who would you send down to make place for them?

You echo my sentiments exactly. This is not a bad team...it is a mediocre team and it has been for decades ( except the years when they are worse). The people who dispute me on this are blind optimists. Today you need speed and finesse. Someday, management will realize this, hoping it will be in my lifetime. We'll see what happens when we start to bring in our youth, but for now, this core does not work.

One of the biggest issues with the team right now is developing continuity and chemistry. Playing funky games with defense pairings isn't going to help with that.

i'm not even trying to nitpick with you, but hayes had one of, if not the best, chance to tie the game up towards the end of the game last night. also, you're still complaining that he's on pp1, but i think he has their only goal, doesn't he?

Posts like this won't be around when the Flyers are winning. The Flyers started out 2-0 and this forum was a ghost town. They play one poor game and it's a chance to pounce.

This is my first time replying on this website and im going to be truthful and honest, do you bums really want to talk about chris stewart and what other bums they have on this team. Do you guys actually watch hockey besides the flyers and realize that this is the same team we have watched for the last 8 plus years. They dont understand how to adapt to the new game and maybe it's probably because they dont have the players too adapt. It doesnt matter what coach they have, they have no speed, no skill and teams that know that they have no chance. They have no transition , have no system, when do you ever see them score a goal that looks like it was based off of skill or system. Its the same crap every year, dump and chase pay along the boards (which they suck) play it to the point and pray to go it goes through 6 players or hits someone to give them an opportunity. They are exactly like the philles of the nhl. JVR is irrelevant and we spent 7 mil a year for a guy they knew wasnt good enough when they first had him. Hayes is a 3rd liner on any good team and we spent 7 mil a year. G and Voracek do not have the speed too have these guys so they try to do too much or cant do anything, instead they would rather play half there team that are bums and can "grind", its pathetic. They have a lack of talent and still think the can play the "Flyer way" instead of letting Farabee and Frost and let them deal with the growing pains, if you have the speed and talent you will adjust after awhile. Id rather them be no playoff contention but look like somewhat exciting to watch then have a team that is so boring to watch and them fall 5 points behind the playoffs. Its bad hockey and i blame the talent evaluation from the front office. My 2 cents

All this paragraph-free rant is missing is a claim that Couturier is a slow checker who can't score.

Hopefully it was your first and last reply.

G will come around yes. Carchidi mentioned that he believes the travel is getting to them, and that's why they were slow all night FWIW. I can see that.

If that's the case, might get ugly tonight .. Save us Hart!

They need to go back to Giroux on the left and Jake on the right. They both scored a lot of PP goals from those positions.

They also need more skill in the top 9, so as soon as they get back tomorrow they should be demoting Bunnaman, and promoting Farabee to play on the 3rd line. Then send Fletcher's pet to the popcorn suite.
