It's pretty funny, I feel like for most of the fanbases on HB, there's more pushback against the fancy stats, probably even too much at times. Meanwhile HF tends to get carried away with it, especially the posters who still use outdated stats like corsi/fenwick and 5v5 points/60 to evaluate players. - Nucker101
The best analysis would probably be somewhere in the middle. Idk what the fancy stuff said but you can't watch that game last night and think Ghost played well. I'd love to watch a game with the Fancy people, ask there analysis in between each period, then review the stats when they come out the next day. |

If they lose tonight, time to institute Dry Island again. - hockeylover
If they lose tonight chuckles will call up Prosser. The lack of previous wild players in the organization is alarming. |

Did the fancy stats say anyone else played poorly or just Gostisbehere?

I have no idea, was referencing that HF always seems to think Ghost plays well. I'm not even sure what fancy stat sight is most prevalent now. |

The thing with your first point is that the 2nd unit PP is actually producing better than the 1st. Wouldn't it be something if they have TWO PP units that produce? Giroux, Jake, Hayes, JVR, and Ghost are all too talented to not put it together eventually. Outside of last year they were all great on the PP, just give it some time, G is on the far wall now, Jake is acting as a floater, just let them acclimate to their new roles on the PP. It's been 1..2..3..4 games. 4!
Hayes is 27, and just recently set career highs in points last year. He actually had 32 points in 41 games with the Rangers, which is a 64 point pace. He is now playing on the number 1 pp unit and is playing with much better line-mates than he is accustomed to, of course outside of that last year in NY. That should show everyone he is capable of putting up 60+ points. He has steadily increased his point totals year after year so no I am not expecting him to "all the sudden right the ship", I am expecting him to continue his current progression through his prime years. Not too crazy a thought there. Not impossible at all my friend. - sjk540
He is on pace for 20 points this year. He has never eclipsed 60 points as a player. Those facts do not change regardless of how many times you say it.

I thought Raffl, Niskanen, JVR had solid games, did they do well advanced stat wise? |

It takes all of about 30 seconds on there to figure it out. They make us look like a collection of hockey geniuses.
There is no doubt that Gostisbehere struggled in last nights game along with a bunch of other players. I will say this though, he had his skin in the game more than Voracek and Giroux did. He didn't play well but he was around the puck and had more energy than both Giroux and Voracek. |

Sure you do. They're finely tuned professional athletes. They travel all the time. Like I said previously, many teams travel twice as much as the Flyers do. If it had that much of an effect, those teams would be effected the most. It's no excuse for their performance last night. They had plenty of legs. They just weren't sharp with the puck. - MJL
Correct, the travel was no excuse for last night. They have been spared a little for their trip to Europe by only playing 4 games so far where others have played 6 or 7 They played in Vancouver Saturday night. The flight is basically 1 hour from there and then had 2 full days off prior to playing again. If anything tonight might be an issue but hopefully they will play on adrenaline. I will be at the game tonight with my Flyers Jersey on! |

I am assuming less than 20. I find using what a player is "on pace for" moronic. Until Kevin Hayes actually scores sixty points in a season, he will be a center who scored less than sixty points in every season he has played in the NHL. |

you're telling me that he is on pace for 20 points after a 4 game sample size.
Im telling you he was on pace last year for 64 points over a 41 game sample size.
which sample size holds more weight?

so you find it moronic to use pace when its G and Voracek in question, but you can still use the on pace argument to say Hayes is only on pace for 20?
uhhhh, what?!? |

It's not at all moronic to look at a pace a player scored at through a large enough sample size such as 60 games. Players miss games due to injury sometimes.

Assuming? Voracek has zero points for the season to this point. I'll gladly take 50-55 points from Hayes this season along with strong two way play at 5 on 5 and on the PK helping to take a lot of the burden off of Couturier.

HB is definitely a more conservative/traditionalist scene. Lot of curmudgeons who are adverse to change here.
