It came against 2 of the worst teams in the league right now. Im just sick of mediocrity with this team and organization. There more invested in having a mascot and place to smash stuff at the games then trying to evaluate talent and production and they just know that the fans are going to keep coming back and watching because we are a passionate fanbase but im not wasting my time and money on the product they have. If by some miracle they do make the playoffs its going to be the same 1 and out and get smashed and well realize that we cant compete with the big boys. Its just frustrating because ive watched this team for 25 years never miss any games on tv and now i finish the game and say why did i just waste 2 hours watching that or i DVR and fast forward through the majority of the game because its either too hard too watch or you just know within the first 10 minutes of the game how the game is going to shape up. I could tell right from the start that the flyers were going to have a hard time creating chances because Cal knew they are a faster team so they played to not give the flyers any odd man rushes by not having the d pinch. They knew that they could get all 5 back to the neutral zone before the flyers could enter the offense because there so slow and have no system. I mean you watch boston or pitt call up these guys from the ahl or college and they fly out there and have skill. These Twarynski's, Bunnamans etc yea maybe they are fast in straight line speed but you can be fast all you want but if you dont have awareness, shiftiness, creativity who cares how fast you are. Trust me I would love the Flyers to be a top tier team I live and breath the Flyers but theres a point where we have to be realistic with ourselves and stop hoping this or that player can do this or that. They are what they are a mediocore at best team - rmcnamee08
If you think you can judge a team after only 4 games out of an 82 game season, please think again. Are the Sharks and Stars horrible teams as well since they only have 1 and 2 wins respectively, through 5 games? Or how about the Oilers and Ducks at the top of their division? Are you ready to give them each a playoff berth?
You can't say anything as an absolute after 4 games. They had a bad game. Even the Blackhawks back in 2012-13, had a couple bad games in that season. The travel from New York, back to Philly, to Switzerland, to Prague, back to Philly, then to Western Canada, all in a week and a half, has nothing to do it? The players will never use it as an excuse but it's just not an optimum situation, anyone knows that.
Relax.

we have a 50% win ratio that's good to you? - 2Real
Flyers of last year would have been more likely to just lay down and we'd be 2-2.
Last night's game, despite awful and lazy play from most of the team, came down to the last minute to be out of reach.
There's plenty to be hopeful about with the current roster. Not to mention, 62.5% of possible points isn't a terrible pace (puts us at 102.5 at year-end). And that's if things don't improve, which they seem likely to |

thanks.....I usually get vilified for saying things like this - DaveofYork
because it's very knee-jerk and doesn't take a lot of thought to spew it out. if they look like this after 15-20 games, ok, then make your comments. Still doesn't mean "you knew" it would happen.
What if the flyers are 12-3-5 after 20 games? What happens then? |

that 62.5% isn't sustainable with the eye test. at some point the bottom will fall out of that |

Thank you! - missingmike
You're welcome. At least some got it. I wonder if I had used a Kevin Wendell Crumb, or, more obvious, Split, reference whether there would have been more responses.
Other than that, the real point was that the Flames players left everything on the ice and the Flyers did not up their tempo to match. Horribly outworked. |

No problem with Hayes at 2C and do not disagree he is hard to play against. Fact is he is taking first line pp time from Couturier who for me is clearly the teams most valuable forward. Hayes and Giroux is not working but Couter and G have a great track record together, fact again is no matter who Couturier plays with they will all do well as his line with TK and Oscar is the teams only bright spot currently up front. Hayes is a career 40-50 point guy and I remember the Rangers very unhappy with him at one point in his career. All of a sudden he supposed to right the ship, not his fault but that is an impossible mission. You relax mate, Sparky is doing fine. - joegreif17
The thing with your first point is that the 2nd unit PP is actually producing better than the 1st. Wouldn't it be something if they have TWO PP units that produce? Giroux, Jake, Hayes, JVR, and Ghost are all too talented to not put it together eventually. Outside of last year they were all great on the PP, just give it some time, G is on the far wall now, Jake is acting as a floater, just let them acclimate to their new roles on the PP. It's been 1..2..3..4 games. 4!
Hayes is 27, and just recently set career highs in points last year. He actually had 32 points in 41 games with the Rangers, which is a 64 point pace. He is now playing on the number 1 pp unit and is playing with much better line-mates than he is accustomed to, of course outside of that last year in NY. That should show everyone he is capable of putting up 60+ points. He has steadily increased his point totals year after year so no I am not expecting him to "all the sudden right the ship", I am expecting him to continue his current progression through his prime years. Not too crazy a thought there. Not impossible at all my friend. |

It's pretty funny, I feel like for most of the fanbases on HB, there's more pushback against the fancy stats, probably even too much at times. Meanwhile HF tends to get carried away with it, especially the posters who still use outdated stats like corsi/fenwick and 5v5 points/60 to evaluate players. |

He'll get traded within the next 12 months, AV is not the right coach for him, even Keith Yandle had issues under AV in NY. |

I agree it's not an optimum situation but this early in the season, I don't think the travel has anything to do with it. They didn't look tired last night. They just didn't play well.
