I bet kapanen was happy as hell to get moved off that top line. Looks like a big weight was lifted off his shoulders. He can get back to his game that makes him successful and not play his off wing and be a hyman.

It's actually what you're supposed to do: it's called the zipper method.
If the Caps win tonight, this place will be...enjoyable. - Steven_Seagull
To me the issue is not the win/loss per se, but how the team plays and whether they actually put in a 100%.
The game last night wasn't great from Toronto's side.

Hutch played well in that last game but the team let him down. They will be motivated to make it up to him. The Tavares line is waking up now as well. Leafs by 1, lock it in.

I hope so, but OV always kills us; 39 goals, 68 points in 48 career games against us.
Big loss coming tonight gentlemen. Looking forward to all the excuses for once again falling flat on a back-to-back and once again losing to a top team...

That's because he should of play Hitchinson last night and Andersen tonight or Andersen again tonight ....

I think last night was a breakout game for JT's line, arguably our most important line.
Kappy also looked way more comfortable playing a north-south style, which should go well with both Mickey and Kerfoot, both of whom are not afraid to use their speed to get in on the forecheck, which is what you want from a 3rd line.

Feels kinda obvious that this should be a great 3rd line, and a pain in the ass one to play against...!

To everyone but Babcock.
I kind of get why he doesn't want to mix lines up all the time: you can go down the rabbit hole, trying combos that work short-term, only to fail again... and all the second-guessing that comes out of it.
But having two guys playing on their off-wing? The only reason I can think of is that he doesn't/didn't trust Moore against top lines as he's only play 25 odd games... we may see Kappy back up there tonight on the road, who knows?
Moore doesn't play a high-risk game though and has a motor like Hyman, so honestly, what's the worst that's going to happen? It's not like he's being asked to center the top matchup line either.

I don't know what took Babs so long to realize it wasn't working with Kapanen on that line..
Every fan, media member, and even farm animal knew that line was not working well.

To be fair to Babcock here, he has a team early in the season and wanted to give this line a chance. I'm sure apart of it was giving Kap a spot in the top 6 as he earned it.

It's just surprising that it took that long, if something isn't working for 6+ games make a change...
Maybe he was planning on keeping that line together, and if Kapanen had a 2 goal game in November, he'd look like a genius.

you just like to complain about Babcock - for whatever reason you can find.
It's good he doesn't change every game and gives players a fair chance to succeed.

I guess, but he rocked that all preseason long and like 15 games later if you include both, it just never looked good.
Kappy's a straight line breakaway speed guy and hauling a puck on your backhand 90 miles an hour is not easy to do, especially not with modern curves.

I know we are discussing such a small thing in the grand scheme but it was the first 5 games of the year. I'm not concerned if he wants to experiment and give Kap a long leash for the top 6.
If he kept them together and didn't promote Moore then I think there would have been a bigger issue if it was a bit longer. Issue being why work hard when your name/contract gets you more?
