There really is no defense of the Stewart signing
Dude had 13 pts in the british hockey league...we already had gabriel and andreoff under contract if they really needed a tough guy. This is just a brain scratcher from Fletcher - bulet13
Fletch already traded for him twice before. Then the PTO. It was a forgone conclusion that Fletch was gonna make it official asap.

Archaic organization far too in love with its past believes Stewart will have a productive role in today’s NHL, or enough so to waste a roster spot and some cap space.
Some good moves here and there but the stench of olden hockey dinosaur mentality. Still lingers. - flyer_nutter
Yah..Not seeing it that way at all but I know a % of Flyersbuzz GM's seem to really not like this move..
I personally don't see it as a reason to give up on the season and hate on everything Orange and Black to this point. To me it's not going to have a negative impact on player development and with it being 1 year I just dont see it as being as bad as most seem to think it is. |

Who else would everyone have on the NHL roster that they would be comfortable for sitting long stretches of time in the pressbox?
Even Andreoff and Gabriel I would rather be playing minutes in the AHL then up here sitting game after game. Bunnamon and Twarinski are both eventually headed back to the AHL once Patrick is healthy and Farabee gets called up for good.
That is what Stewart is, no more no less. A guy that can fill in every few games or weeks and whose development wont be harmed by being a scratch for long stretches.
This gnashing of teeth and rending of orange colored garments is ridiculous. Stewart is not blocking anyone.

Why are you defending an archaic organization? All other moves are null and void because of this!

Two players have been mentioned numerous times due to what happened today and who tonight's opponent is. Stewart and Lucic. Calgary actually traded James Neal for him, who was scored 6 goals already this season. Lucic has 3 more years after this season at a cap hit of 5.25M a year. Yea, let's go off the deep end due to the Flyers signing Stewart to a one year deal for 750K. |

Idk why Calgary wanted Neal gone that badly to take Lucic on. |

Could've gotten that a hell of a lot cheaper than Lucic. |

It really does. And I think all of us are 100% in agreement that he should not be a regular in this lineup.

I’d rather have Andreoff or Gabriel, at least they can keep up with the pace of NHL play. Plus neither is a prospect anymore so I don’t care if they only get into the occasional game.
Stewart, OTOH, is a guy I never want to see in the lineup. |

Andreoff, I'll give you. I'll take Stewart over Gabriel and it's not close.

But I dont think the organization wants them sitting. At least I am guessing that is their train of thought.

I think Fletcher has a soft spot for Stewart and sees more in him than most others too. I don’t believe it’s any more complicated than that |

I think familiarity for the player is a part of it but I hope you're not suggesting that the only reason they signed him if because of a soft spot for the guy. I think Fletcher deserves the benefit of the doubt that they think he can help them as a player. Signing him for what you're suggesting is disqualifying for a GM. |

Is he still on Tampa? All in all he's had a good caterer. He would've been fine here if we weren't relying so much on him. |
