IMO, He’s an ideal 6th D if the other 5 are rock solid. Unfortunately, the Hawks are not quite deep enough anymore to afford the luxury of a purely offensive 6th D man.
- Ogilthorpe2

Let's just hope he strings together a few good games and he can be moved for a good return. Soon.

Also from the trib.

The Seabrook-Maatta pairing has been on the ice for 25 Hawks shots and 57 opponents shots. That 30.49 percentage is the second-worst of any pairing in the league with 20 minutes or more of ice time.

Opponents have scored only one goal while the Seabrook-Maatta pairing has been on the ice. Whether that’s sustainable remains to be seen, but the numbers suggest it’s a matter of time until the disparity in shots catches up.

Where did the shots come from? How many were high danger chances?

Swap de Haan and Maatta. de Haan is a better/faster skater than Maatta and both are Lefties. Swapping those 2 makes the 2nd pairing better and doesn't significantly change the 3rd pairing.

The eye test makes it pretty clear that the #6/#7 pairing spends a whole lot of time chasing the puck and has a hard time getting retrieving the puck and getting it out of the zone. They both know how to play positionally and a lot of shots with them on the ice come from the perimeter, but even still, the inordinate amount of time spent chasing in the zone means that when they do get it out, its dump it and finally get off for a change.

What if we skipped overtime, and just gave the extra point the team that managed to tie the game? That way the team that lost the lead would effectively “lose” one point.

Seems to me we called this a bad idea several years ago.

You know, when I was young and dumb (insert wise ass comments here), I used to think that saying was fun and clever. Then as I started to see the world, I realized that they say that just about everywhere. It’s one of the more disappointing things tha you learn as you age: Everywhere/everything/everyone is a little different but mostly the same, and almost no one has an original thought. It’s all been done before.

Hawks finally showed up and played a full 60 minutes . Let's hope they can keep it going.

For all the negativity some have shown Nylander, he has 2 goals and that is more than cat or strome who are considered our top guys.

I thought saad and kubalick play extremely well together and this is the saad we have been looking for.

The one line that seems to be lacking chemistry is toews and cat, sure last night was a little better but it just seems like oil and water those 2 playing together IMO.

Crawford seem to finally bounce back that's a good thing for both him and the team.

The 4th line has been very consistent so far and hopefully they get rewarded soon for the hard work

Carpenter and saad on the pk are very good and dangerous.

Just out of curiosity when Dach is brought up where do you guys see him being thrown in at ? 3rd line center or right wing along toews and cat?

Not really, and I didn’t mean it as a slight.

The timing was funny to me because I just had a conversation about that saying (and many other ubiquitous quotes) with someone yesterday. The aviation industry is full of them. I heard most of them when I was still a teenage student pilot...years later, I still have younger pilots regurgitate them to me as if they’re new. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I’m just a cynical crab ass I guess. Don’t mind me.

From the tribune:

Since the start of last season, Gustafsson has played 25 minutes or more 16 times. The Hawks are 1-12-4 in those games. They’re 8-3 when Gustafsson plays 20 minutes or fewer, including Monday’s win.

Yikes.

Some posters still think we will get a first round pick for Gus. Others think he should play left wing. The Gus tenure will turn out badly.

- -Doh-

I think we have a trend. Though, it is kind of misleading to an extent. Gus obviously is going to log more ice time when the Hawks are trailing.

The context is missing somewhat. What are the forward groups they are playing with the most? The eye test shows me both Seabs/Maatta getting pressured and not having many options with the puck. Definitely due to both of their lack of footspeed but that pair needs better puck support. The QoC also needs to be brought into the mix.

How are you guys liking Nylander. I saw he potted a couple in your first few games. Has he upped his effort level?

How do you get 15 points in 5 games? One team can only get 2 per game.
- mohel

If the hawks are getting 5 points for losing 5 games in OT/shootout, their opponent is getting 10 points for an OT/shootout win. So hawks get 5/15 points for .333 and the opponent gets 10 points for .667.

Strikes and gutters, ups and downs.

Hoping he can figure it out, because the talent is obviously there, but personally, I’d like a do over.

Think he goes back to the WHL. I don't think the Hawks are going to mess with the 3rd line anytime soon. Like to see him given a chance, but IMO it will be next year in the NHL for him.

I can see him given a chance on the wing when he comes back up. I'm fine if he doesn't stay up though. If he proves himself, cool, but I think the NHL might be too high of expectations.

Has a lot of bad habits that need to be broken. Effort was there in the last game. He needs to bring it consistently. That is the question with him. Is it capable of doing that for a season.

I never used "chutzpah" in writing and always thought it had a negative connotation. But now that President Trunp visited with the St Louis Blues, i feel sone of The President's remarks clearly make him out to b e a real chutzpah. This is merely reporting accurately news of the dayI(l

Nah. If he is going to be a center in this league, let him start learning the position at this level from the start. It would be different if the Hawks were stacked with center depth but they aren't. The kid has the defensive chops to handle it. He will make mistakes of course but he understand the concepts.

Toss him into the air and let him fly.

I’m ashamed of all of you.

Chutzpah = balls - the kid who kills his parents, then throws himself on the mercy of the court because he’s an orphan.

Putz=Richard - fool, silly, less offensive than schmuck

Schlemiel=lazy person, worthless, slob

The best highlight of the year in this early season is not a goal or a great save, it's Shaw's hit behind the net, a thing of beauty!!!
