Pretty much a guarantee now JJ-Marino are on for a couple goals against

At the very least some very high quality chances against.

The third pair definitely needs to be sheltered against top teams.

Pettersson and Schultz need to pick up their game though. They are only carrying a 42% combined scoring chance. That is terrible for them. It is basically no different than Johnson Schultz and Pettersson-Gudbranson

It might be a good thing. They've been living dangerously with the bottom pair the last few games but not really getting burned.

It’s only a few games in so you should compare each game separately and look at the trend. Petts/Schultz started weak, but continue to get better.

The importance of analytics and scoring ability need to be balanced. Simon helps create more possession and chances. He also wastes more chances than most players because of his inability to finish. Scorers out perform their analytics consistently, non scorers underperform them.

Jake and Sid w/ Simon last year had 66.7% of the ACTUAL Goals.

Jake and Sid w/out Simon last year had 66.7% of the ACTUAL Goals.

This is probably not as big a deal as we're making it.

The price of Simon vs. what he brings is huge.

If it was a 1 for 1 without money retained. I would take it and run if I were JR

Agree, I'm just unconvinced he needs to be on the top line, he'll help anywhere he plays and they'll dominate with pretty much anyone.

SV% with simon was .90 while it was .93 while he was off the ice. It is a small sample size, but what I can take away from what you have given me(including jake) is that...They outperformed GF% expectations by 1.4% when Simon was on the ice and 11.6% while he wasn't on the line...which do you expect to regress?

I don’t know. I don’t think other players understand their roles with him all the time and that’s what’s either made or broke someone sticking with Sid.

Hornqvist kills the transition on that line and is only effective once in the zone.

Rust doesn’t always have the awareness to open up space.

Simon seems to understand that while he doesn’t always defer to Sid, he’s there to create time and space, and take some of the brunt of transition off his hands.

Wouldn't fit under the cap. Kahun and Johnson for Fiala would.

Guds for Nick Ritchie? If so that'd clear up quite a bit of space and Ritchie could be added to a package. After St Louis' win I'm sure a low cost big bodied winger would be enticing to a lot of GM's.

did you guys watch the first episode of In the Room? Looks like it was Sam the stats geek that was pushing hard for them to trade up and get Legare. Nice work, Sam.

I still putting a scorer there and using Simon to bolster the middle 6, but I have to admit I just took a quick glance at PDO, which was even, and not SV% so I tip my hat to you for showing me something I missed.

Per the regression, great scorers consistently out perform those metrics, they don't necessarily regress. But I can concede your point of thinking that's safer for the top unit. Still need play driving ability more for the rest of the line up IMO.

I actually wonder what Guerin thinks of JJ. He could have been one of the guys clamoring for him...

I figured. I’m totally fine with Gudbranson or Jack Johnson + Kahun for Fiala+B prospect or pick.

I'm not quite ready to give up on Kahun yet. But that would be the kind of deal worth making.

Are we really going to start rumors every time a player gets scratched? Minnesota has a messed up roster with too many LWs and not enough centers or RWs. They don't need a RHD though. Maybe a LD.
