should do better than the teams that have less skill for sure. teams like tampa and boston that have even more skill should do even better though. - daeth
I think the Leafs have far more skill than the Bruins. I don't think the Bruins are anywhere near the Leafs in terms of skills (Bruins top line aside).

If we're talking raw offensive skill yeah but Boston is a fair bit better in terms of defensive skill which I think gives Boston the overall edge. Could be partly down to systems/coaching though, maybe they are just better at getting the most out of their guys.

Yeah it could be. I think some of it is their players just want it more. They're willing to out in the hard work without the puck, not too concerned about personal stats etc. They also seem to have players that are willing to leave some money on the table to help the management build a stronger team, not trying suck every last cent out of the available cap space. Just my opinion though.

I think it was encouraging to see the bottom six guys win the game last night because depth is a big reason why Boston and St. Louis went far. You need those unsung heroes when the big guns get sawed off. That's why Kadri's suspension hurt.
The play of Mikheyev and Goat are real positive developments so far.
I think part of this grit debate also goes to experience and scar tissue. The finals teams were both significantly more battle hardened. And you need your goalie peaking.
I don't see any reason the Leafs can't get there. They are getting more experience and depth. And the roster isn't frozen either. A long way to go and a lot can happen.
I am horny for some AM and Mitch highlight reel plays though. Next game. Double M's coming back with a vengeance. It's like when Matthews doesn't score for ten games, people start tweaking. Then he goes off.

Go Leafs Go - Zezel
Yup.
Goat looks like a totally different player right now.
And we still have a winger and a dman who play pretty significant roles that are coming back at some point.
