Bill,
I ask this not to bash or disparage Nolan Patrick, but what do you think about his prospects this summer? What point total (or points per game if he doesn't play the entire season) does he need to reach so that the Flyers resign him? For example if he's still in the 30-40 point range, is it worth resigning him and forcing Frost to switch positions? If he's in the 50+ range, then can the Flyers even afford to keep him based on how much he'd want as an RFA, compared to what they could get in a trade for him. You would think with Coots and Hayes signed long term, Frost could be the 3C and Patrick's RFA rights are traded this summer. Also with how much cap space his next deal could require and the amount of players needed to be protected in the expansion draft, Patrick seems the most logical to be moved for picks/younger players who won't need protection.
Thanks! - narfmoo12
Between missing time, starting behind the 8-ball, no featured spot on the PP, and limited talent at 3RW to play with, Patrick's gonna have a hell of a time just trying to get to 30-pts, much less 50.
If he fails to impress again, there's nothing to do but re-sign him on a bridge and keep hoping he'll turn into something more. See: Sam Bennett.
Trade would be difficult, since the market price on him is likely well below what the Flyers could sell to ownership/fans. See: Jesse Puljujarvi.
At that point, a realistic package would probably look like what the Oilers ended up getting for Yakupov: a C-grade prospect and a 3rd. Would any of us want to see that happen? |

It's a guarantee that they re-sign Patrick and give him a Q offer.

Can you address why there seems to be such an anti-Patrick vibe from AV and Fletcher? Is it just that they don't get/understand the condition? Or is it an inherited project player? I am still of the opinion that Patrick's potential Upside has not been reached. I get the feeling that there are those in the organization who want to trade him and move on....what do you think? - wbon22
Where , from what and how do you get that perception?

He might be reading the hockey buzz comments section. I’m sure the organization is frustrated to some degree with the players development due to a assortment of minor injuries, but the guy had two years in the show by his 20th birthday...that’s not easy. |

Debatable. NoPa will have favourable matchups, he will hit 30 easy. I do think he gets on PP2. |

I get a kick out all the favorable matchups that Patrick is going to get. If you're the home team with last change, who do you want your top line out against? The Couturier or Hayes line? Or the Patrick line? Vigneault cannot dictate and get every matchup he wants. Patrick is going to see plenty of tough matchups when he gets in the lineup. |

A stretch pass from Myers and Farabee puts it through the defenders legs, dekes the goalie and easily puts it in the net. What a first goal. |

I think I would consider shutting Patrick down until November. I don’t understand why bother bringing him along on the road trip if they’re not interested in rushing him.
Excited for tomorrow. These gaps between games feels like the season hasn’t even started yet. |

That's awesome. Of course if those guys have a bad game now it will be your fault. |

Except thats not necessarily true. Sure if the opponent has an offensive zone faceoff that will happen but at the same time, if the top line is out against our 3rd line, who comes out vs our top 2 lines? Coaches pick and choose their spots.
Even if that was true 100% of the time, it is ot going to be true for half the season when WE have last change which is 41 games minus the home games missed so far. Going forward he's missing away games. |

No it's exactly true. It's a pretty simple concept that opposition coaches would want to keep their top line away from the Flyers two big strong two way centers whenever possible. What's not true is that Patrick is going to consistently see better match ups simply because he will be playing on the 3rd line. Nothing is true 100% of the time, that was the mistake you made in your previous post.
