I do find it funny that sports fans today (of all teams, all sports) feel that they know more than coaches who do this thing for a living, have been doing so for many years, and know 100X more inside information than we do.

I think it's fine for fans to question what a coach is doing.

Babs' philosophy is two skilled guys with one hard worker.

And having watched Kapanen flounder in the role so far this year, it's hard to argue with Babs.

I agree, Kapanen may find better success on the third line when Hyman returns. From the asset viewpoint, neither Hyman nor Kapanen nor Johnssson are what I would think are core - long term pieces. With the top heavy AAV for the core, Leafs will need to use these assets as future trading chips the keep the Cap under control.

But because Kapanen struggles in the 1st 4 games does not mean Babs' phiosophy of having a grinder on every line works.

I've thought about it an awful lot over the past few years.

I'm kinda on Babs' side now.

There's only so much puck to go around. If you have two superstars on one line, they probably don't need a 3rd really good guy - because that guy won't see the puck enough.

Why not make your third line a scoring threat? If they can finish +1 every night, it gives you a better chance of winning the hockey game.

I think this is exactly why kadri was traded. Good asset, but he needs a bigger role to thrive in. When his role diminished he wasn’t as good as he was prior to Tavares coming.
