I remember when hiring a soccer coach was a disaster. It was May 14 and 15, 2019. I also remember the poster who was leading the criticism of the hire.

I got the impression that a lot of folks were more or less on board with something different, and the more people read and heard about him, more most of us liked him.

Of course, the 'soccer coach' ribbing existed, for some reason.

The only gripe I have about this right now is sobodka is playing in erod is not.
- ImThatGuy

They are two and zero, 10 goals for, 3 against, and they have complete dominated in both games.

You dont realize this, but you do not have any gripes right now.

perhaps because he spent his last 4 seasons working for a soccer team instead of a hockey team

While Sobotka has played well in that role for two games that the Sabres have dominated, he obviously isn't the solution. Wondering if he is a 10-game placeholder for Tage or Asplund assuming they light it up in Rochester.

Cozens getting his 9 games at 2RW might be interesting as well....

I have similar thoughts. Hate siding with Body Fat Inspector, but just let him dominate the poop out of the WHL. He's thrashing the league as we speak. End of the year, would love to see him in Rochester, or if warranted, Buffalo. Tage and Asplund are interesting.. I don't think he comes back until Dineen and the rest of the org deem his two way game to be acceptable.

(Rochester, NY) … On the strength of a pair of goals from forward Tage Thompson, including the game-winner with 43 seconds left in overtime, the Rochester Americans (1-0-0-0) opened their 64th season in the American Hockey League with a 3-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch (0-0-1-0) Friday night at The Blue Cross Arena.

Along with Thompson, who has 11 points (8+3) in his last nine AHL games dating back to last season, Rasmus Asplund and Zach Redmond each added two assists.

?

Or during that 5 year span.

I'm just glad he's relevant enough to employ a system that maximizes his players abilities and has a message that resonates with every single player. A good coach clearly doesn't need to be, and most likely will never be, a HHOFer.

Probably the right move. Who knows, we may lose directly because of no running game today, but I don't want him re-injuring that hammy.

Big picture - this is a good move.

Edit : Oh crap. I replied to the wrong post. I was supposed to be replying to the Singletary news.

I like the role Sobotka plays, and for his talent level, I honestly think he's done admirably. He's positive in possession. He's not getting caved in, based on 2 games.

However, the elements he's missing are skill. And for a top 6, especially with those other two, you need to get them the puck, and be able to handle it when mojo or skinner hit you with a pass near the net. He can't do it. So, in all, he could be much more of a train wreck than he currently is, but he just flat out doesn't belong there, skills wise. Find someone with his physical traits that can handle the puck. Don't think I'm saying anything new here. Only 'news' is that he's not drowning his line. But also not lifting them either

I went looking for this highlight, and ended up in a different place. Just look what Sobotka does on a 3-on-2

Like wtf??? At least put it on net. He cant wait to get out of the o zone

This team is fun as hell, but get a 2RW, and they will be legit

hadn't coached an NHL game in 6 years

I hated the hire, hoped I was wrong

based on 2 games, it was a good hire

lets see how long it lasts, hopefully several seasons

pretty sure the last thing anyone wanted was a 60 year old man who had nothing to do with the nhl and was in fact employed with a soccer organization

it's so outside the box

however when I heard he was hanging out in buffalo bars, and preached change, and these 2 games has shown change, he has grown on me

everyone should be allowed to change their opinion, no matter if it's about krueger, reinhart, risto, sobotka, girgens etc

the key is, if someone is open minded and capable of change, which many are not

I honestly wanted to give Sobotka a chance to be a player here. But a lack of depth at the position, and the player type, left us with him in that spot. Like I said, he hasn't caved his line in, but the complete lack of skill doesn't help... at all.

Not just Reinhart, but it's amazing how playing at a high pace and making decisive plays makes our average speed players look fast

This is true.

It’s also true that they were looking for an effective communicator who could motivate young players and instill a fully engaged and unified culture.

Looks like that’s the guy they hired. He may have been doing that in a soccer context for the last while.

I hope his shelf life with his message is sustainable
