I can confirm that most Stars fans that I am friends with here know he's not cutting it anymore.

I don't know if we need him. His contract isn't great, for his major decrease in production.

It won't take that long. He is already controlling the ice when he is out there.

His poise is his best asset. He has the talent and intellect, but just watching him wait for plays to develop before acting is other worldly. This is something that even really good players don't ever develop to their full capacity.

He's owned $9.5 million/year until the age of 35/36. If he's declining the way it sounds like, this would absolutely be a dumb pickup. Plus, they don't have the cap to make it work, even with LTIR.

Good luck getting a good return for Benn. That contract is ass, and he plays the type of game that grinds his body to a pulp. He's a fine player today, but that contract is dangerous AF.

Benn is the exact age where power forwards start declining. He put up his first 50 point season last year since before he peaked. He's playing slower than he ever has. He doesn't have many years left until he's David Backes.

There's six years left including this year. Kyle has four left including this year. So you pay him 1.25 more than Kyle and watch him be a 35-40 point guy in two years, exactly where Kyle is now. Account for inflation, it's almost the exact contract. Does he help you win now more than Kyle? I guess. Do you need him? Probably not. If Tage has any promise, this trade is just.. useless.

Definitely not saying the trade makes sense. If we were to absorb that contract, that's what I'd ask for, and say (frank) it if they want anything else. It'll soon be an albatross like Bobby Ryan and Brent Seabrook.
