Pearson had 11 shots on net last night That line dominated possession... just need to finish.

I was pleasantly surprised by Myers' game last night too. I didn't watch a lot of Winnipeg games and assumed, based on the grumbling about that signing, he was another Gudbranson.

Their stars put up points when Vans didn't. Petey has to be better.

What a lot of those "reports" didn't mention was that he played the majority of the season with Kulikov who is basically a worse version of Gudbranson soooooo....

It was reported last week that they turned down offers that were too low for Sutter.
- VANTEL

Fair enough but I still don't think that's their MO for his usage. Nor will it "up his value"

I think they will keep Sutter where he is and try to raise his value. I think Jake and Sutter will both have new addresses this year but Benning is trying not to sell low.

This is what I would like for this year if Sutter stays.

Pearson Bo Gaudette
Ferland Sutter Roussel

Holy fawk Vantel.

Do you honestly think that other GMs can be so easily fooled? Sutter is garbage just like LE, Goldy, Baer, etc, etc.

Agreed. And he will be. I'm not too worried about the top line, they'll sort it out. That was the first time those three had ever played together.

He had a mediocre game, by his standards. Both his wingers are shaking off some rust though, so I am not to worried about the top 2 lines, they will be impressive.
More concerned about Stecher, on defense, he was shaky, all night.
Beagle had a strong game, Leivo looked ok, the rest of those 2 lines were meh.

Not fooled, but they’re (frank)ing lemmings and reactionary to the moment. Come TDL and a few of them need a 3LC for the playoffs... if Sutter has had a decent year (healthy, potted some goals) there is likelier better offers coming in than over the summer where he was hurt all last year.

It doesn't matter what I think.

The GM had a couple of offers and Benning turned them down . Despite disbelief I am not Benning.

Ferland looked tentative. Hope that changes.

Hughes looked great...Stecher...meh.

Benn and Myers looked solid for the most part.

Still think Miller should be on the Pettersson line and Ferland on Bo's line.

Even Leivo and Pearson looked ok.

Bit surprised to see Schaller on the opening night roster but see where that goes.

Some good and bad last night. There was no in your face player. Canucks do still have some house cleaning to do. I think after another game or two they will make some adjustments.
- VANTEL

I hope when they look at video of last night they focus on the last couple minutes of the first period. I missed the third, but that minute and a half shift by Hughes with Pettersson was impressive. Those two should be out together as much as possible

i thought that the first line was just out of sync. BB's late signing and having a new player on the line, it's understandable. i'd give it time.

i thought the second line played well. i liked miller's play.

myers had a strong game as did edler. i thought the d was pretty good to good overall. hughes is looking good but we'll have to put up with some defensive deficiencies but that's just growing pains for a young offensive d.

the bottom 6 looks like we thought: a mish mash of odds and ends.

bottom line: give it about 10 games to see what the team really has.

I would really like to see what those offers were to judge what other GMs think of Sutter. If JB turned them down they must have pretty bad.

i think other GMs (if they did make offers) would have perceived him as a cap dump and probably offered virtually nothing or a "less bad" contract in exchange.

jb didn't need/want to give up an "asset" for cap space he could get through other moves. he's banking on squeezing value out of sutter through this season.

i'd rather have just moved him for nothing but i can see why jb is holding onto him even if i don't agree with it. they've held onto vets too long thinking they could move them in-season or that they actually needed them on the roster.

Yup, only one game. Going to have to find ways to win those one goal games though.

Jan 2nd is the official date of when your last in the league and can't turn it around after that, you know you can't win the cup.

Word of advice, don’t listen to anyone’s grumblings on here. Most seem to have a skewed view of what they were watching unfold. They have players they dislike and will do/say whatever to prove their point, al a Trump style.

Last nights best players were Smith and Draisaitl, yes Smith grabbed a stick and threw it, BFD, a little adversity...deal with it.

Raise his value to what?
He is what he is, where offense goes to die. Other GM's aren't as dumb as Jimbo, they know what Sutter's ceiling is. Other teams don't value the Canucks garbage.

Considering this was the first actual game with almost every line and D pairing new ...pretty good considering
