He doesn't need waivers again if he's traded. He can report directly to anyone's AHL team. If he was claimed he would've had to pass through waivers again to be sent down.

Because if you claimed him you had to keep him on your roster for opening night which means you would have to waive somebody to make room and if the team wants him but wants him to go to the minors they would be short a guy on the opening night roster. If you trade for him you can just send him to the AHL if you want as long as he clears waivers which shouldn’t be a problem

I'm not expecting too much from Holmstrom yet. I like that he'll be in NA so he can get used to the style of play here, but he's still just an 18 yo kid, and he'll be playing in a tough pro league against men. If he can hold his own, learn, and finish the season better than he starts it, that'll be a success story for me.
