LE was a whipping boy in Vancouver all year last season too though. One of the reasons for optimism this season was no longer having LE in the top 9 thanks to roster upgrades.
Sure, his salary does make it difficult to judge him through the same lens as the players who make a fraction if what he does, but all this talk about who's better suited for a bottom 6 role and yet LE had 3 hits in 81 games last year. That's hard to do. Even the Sedins averaged between 15-25 hits most seasons. - Nucker101
You're just missing all the little things. |

Thanks Carol,
Your theory makes the most sense to me as I can't see this group keeping Gaudette up just to let him sit in the box.
They can't be dumb enough to return to their original "development plan" used on McCann.
They've likely already put a claim in on a dman, whether that is Schenn or whomever and will be sending gauds back down if it goes through.
I think Mckeown would of been a better gamble than Forsling or Schenn but we'll see what happens. |

“Not an easy day, this one stings a little harder. He was close to me and my family. It’s tough to see, he went through a lot to fight back after last season. There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be back faster, stronger and better.” - @BoHorvat on Baertschi |

Why does the money matter though? You pay him either way, shouldn't the goal be to make the playoffs this year and ice the best team?
I just hope he's in the press box, I'll laugh if he's in the lineup. - Nucker101

For the freakout fetishists, I'd suggest heading on over the HFCanucks to get your fix where they're just as pissed about Alex freakin Biega being waived as they are about Sven. - Nucker101
Like I told you yesterday I will complain about Gaudette being sent down when it actually happens. People get too excited about things that could happen but usually don't like the Lucic trade and Edlers 4 x 7 contract.
I think it is a good move to send down Sven and I hope somepne claims him. I never did like his contract from the get go. I don't care what his potential is .
I liked Luke Schenn last year and I hope they are able to claim him . He was solid last year when he played for us. I truthfully like him more than Troy.

For me it's more about LE than Sven. I've never been a big Sven fan myself. I just don't want LE on the roster, or at least not in the lineup. |

Way too much stock being placed on preseason performances (good or bad)...it is practice for established players so of course all the guys fighting for jobs stand out.
With that being said, it is a important season for JV, LE, etc. - do they deserve to be in the NHL? Can they play their role and support the top 6?
It will also be interesting to see how Gaudette fairs in the regular season...preseason was a big success but games only get harder from here.
Everyone likes Sven but he needs to prove he can play for a significant period of time without getting hurt (the team needs consistency this year). If he doesn't get claimed, I could see him getting called up and Gaudette going down to play meaningful minutes. - CoolerHeads
You can always send Gaudette down if he doesn't perform. We don't know how he will do in regular season that is true but we do know how the other will do and I promise not to lose sleep if someone claims Sven or Goldy. |

Jim Benning interview summary.
Evolution of the team.
Sven only played 26 games, opportunity for ice time and to play lots.
On fit: Part of it was, wasn't on top 2 power plays and doesn't kill penalties for us. As we constructs the roster, travis thinks about the fit about who can kill penalties.
Jake or Loui for 3rd line. Hopes for 15-20 goals from Leivo. Hopes Sutter can regain his form. 4th Line has good chemistry together in pre season, good forecheck and cycling puck.
Gaudette deserves to be here to start the year. Monitored and will do what's best for his development.
This just in, Goldy is a great kid. Injury depth for top 6.
Where did Loui and Schaller fit. Benning said they gave them more flexibility for 3rd and 4th liners and PKers.
Has had trade discussions. No idea if someone is likely to claim anyone. Seems teams have a bit of interest in Alex.
4 points in 5 games in the pre season for Sven.
Thought Sven was a bit hesitant.

This is a totally uneducated BS statement, if you bothered to look at his quarterly production you know he put up good numbers with terrible players in Florida before he was traded to Pittsburgh.
Quarter
GP G A PTS SOG PPP PPTOI TOI
1 16 1 4 5 25 0 0:27 13:29
2 23 6 6 12 41 3 1:22 14:47
3 19 4 0 4 35 0 0:30 13:12
4 20 8 6 14 49 0 0:44 16:17 - LeftCoaster
I knew about those stats and it doesn't change sh*t - it means he had one similar decent quarter in 4 seasons then suddenly he starts playing with Crosby/Guentzel and tops anything he's ever produced. It only helps to strengthen the argument. |

I guess it could be worse......
Jurco - McDavid - Neal
Nygard - Draisaitl - Kassian
Granlund - RNH - Chiasson
Khaira - Sheahan - Archibald
Look at those wingers - Nucker101

LE is a given that everyone hates him. You are correct about Sven being a contract dump hopeful , and no one would pick up Loui if sent down.

I just hope TG isn't behind the curve, set on 2 checking lines and 2 scoring lines. Playing not to get scored on instead of trying to score goals.

I'm cool with it, I hate how slow he is but watching that pre-season montage the Canucks put together with "best hits of 2018" and seeing Schenn in half of them despite playing 8 freakin games really reminded me of how soft this team is. Plus he's a smarter dman than I thought he was, his positioning was good. He'd be a decent matchup player that you sit out against the fastest teams. |

TG said he has new systems and wants 3 scoring lines but not to have to shelter any line this season.
TG has always wanted to attack but never could with his line up. |

Exactly . He costs 700 K he can hit and he is smart with experience. I liked Biega also but he is not PK Subban either. Depth signing if it happens. |

Depends on his center, we've seen enough of Sutter and Jake together to know that they have very little chemistry and only score goals individually when on then same line. |

I think this is Sutters last year here. I know most people hate his contract but I am not one. He served his purpose and when his value increases they will move on.
I heard Sat Shah about an hour ago say there was a few offers for a trade for BS but Canucks did not like the return . It was not enough.
Canucks management have high respect for Sutter. |
