For the freakout fetishists, I'd suggest heading on over the HFCanucks to get your fix where they're just as pissed about Alex freakin Biega being waived as they are about Sven. - Nucker101
I can see that. I just despise everything JV has done since he got here. I think he's the reason McCann got traded and now that guy is playing top line with Crosby and we get this plug. - kaptaan
I thought it pretty clear that Jared McCann fawking blows on di*ks - he was a garbage hockey player until the second he was placed on a line with (possibly) the best hockey player on earth - then he had success and if that is unclear to anyone they don't deserve running water.

It's definitely a fine line that management has to walk.
On one hand if you're serious about bundling a winner long-term you want to establish a precedent and a culture where guys like LE and JV's camp/pre-season attitude/play isn't tolerated and reward a kid like Gaudette, and not just reward him but continue to grow his confidence by giving him a solid role right from opening night.
On the other hand, you don't want to outright waive a young player like Virtanen and seem him flourish into a valuable speedy/physical bottom 6 winger for a rival team, perhaps even inside your own division.
Where they lose me is when they keep LE on the roster, unlike Jake, there's no concern about losing a young cost-controlled "asset". He's an easy player to make an example out of to establish a culture with a "spots earned, salaries don't matter" mantra
I really don't view LE as some sort of a PK specialist, he doesn't do anything extraordinary out there, he just stays in his zone. I've seen guys like Sutter and Beagle make nice PK plays, those guys are a true "plus" on the PK
I think Sven being waived is purely about "cap bait", JB knows Eriksson/Schaller would clear so he threw out a guy who might get claimed. This has nothing to do with on-ice play or Loui "the PK specialist" Eriksson. JB wants to clear cap after a summer of spending and getting hit with Lu's recapture. - Nucker101
Fair point. But what about health? LE can give you almost a full season in the bottom 6 where Sven might have still been an issue health-wise?
Manning for Baertschi? You (frank)ers save 2.3mil this year after burying Manning and 3.3 next year and we get someone that sadly probably becomes our 2nd or 3rd best winger.

Tkachuk is producing and making 7 million dollars a year while Juolevi is once again in the minors. Those two misses really hurt still

This is a totally uneducated BS statement, if you bothered to look at his quarterly production you know he put up good numbers with terrible players in Florida before he was traded to Pittsburgh.
He's a folk hero over there, it's truly bizarre. These quotes are all from different posters, and that's just from the last 20 or so posts that I backread
While I may not like it, I can understand Bae and Goldy being waived, but not Biega.
Goldobin and Baertschi probably clear.
Biega is the best asset and is an effective RHD making peanuts so it would be pretty surprising if he wasn't claimed
Losing Biega for nothing is nuts. The guy has literally been our 5th/6th best defenseman for years and an absolute saviour when our defense gets eviscerated by injuries every year.
Biega was sent down in favor of Fantenberg.
Which is mind numbing.
After the issues the team has had in the past few years with defensive depth, waiving a cheap effective RHD like Biega who is very likely to be claimed by Winnipeg is just insanity.
Get ready to see a lot of Brisebois and Chatfield this year.

Way too much stock being placed on preseason performances (good or bad)...it is practice for established players so of course all the guys fighting for jobs stand out.
With that being said, it is a important season for JV, LE, etc. - do they deserve to be in the NHL? Can they play their role and support the top 6?
It will also be interesting to see how Gaudette fairs in the regular season...preseason was a big success but games only get harder from here.
Everyone likes Sven but he needs to prove he can play for a significant period of time without getting hurt (the team needs consistency this year). If he doesn't get claimed, I could see him getting called up and Gaudette going down to play meaningful minutes.

LE was a whipping boy in Vancouver all year last season too though. One of the reasons for optimism this season was no longer having LE in the top 9 thanks to roster upgrades.
Sure, his salary does make it difficult to judge him through the same lens as the players who make a fraction if what he does, but all this talk about who's better suited for a bottom 6 role and yet LE had 3 hits in 81 games last year. Even for a guy who's a positional player, that's pathetic. Even the Sedins averaged between 15-25 hits most seasons.
